Sky Watch Season # 4 Episode # 3

Sky Watch Friday This is the place. Please check out the site and link in if you wish to participate. There were a lot of people with beautiful Sky photos last week. You can link in from my side bar or at the start of this post. You can link at 3:00 PM EDT on Thursdays. SWF is run by Klaus, Wren, Sandy, Sylvia and myself.

I was on Lake Hodgson this morning before 7 AM and the Moon greeted me. We had overnight storms so I didn't know how the fishing would pan out.
A Great Blue Heron flew over the area I was fishing so I took a shot with my Canon A590 boat camera. There was also a seagull above it. I saw an Osprey and a Green Heron but wasn't quick enough because I was fighting fish.
Wind out of the North with a cold front moving through but forty Crappie later, at 10AM, I was headed off the lake and the sky was outstanding.

Header Competition # 42 "How Does Your Garden Grow"

The header theme this week by myself and is ""How Does Your Garden Grow". I chose this in honor of Lanny joining the group. She is always working in the dirt with neat garden beds. She may find this week there are some other gardeners around.  MacDarlaGail's Man,  Lanny and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. Gail's Man is off acting tonight, so he is not posting this week.

Martha and Tom are on a break. Come back as soon as you are able my friends.

So, how does my garden grow? The veggie garden is a jungle, the tomatoes are at 7 feet high and just starting to produce cherry tomatoes. They are well over the cages and the fence. The zucchini are giving me enough to feed the extended family and the green and yellow peppers are going crazy. The peppers are hidden in the middle behind the zucchini which are behind the spreading tomatoes. The white onions in front are almost ready. I can't keep ahead of the weeds with all this fishing.
Fishing is a tough job but someone has to do it. I was the only fisherman on the lake today. This is another place I harvest which is Lake Hodgson. I do this by taking the Black Crappie out of the lake. I caught 23 today with the biggest being 12". They didn't all fit on the cooler. They were all powerful fish.
My header is this little garden area is really neat. I'm sure Darla can help me with the little white with a red center flower which came back from last year. There are hot peppers behind the flowers and in front of a first year red rose. I like to keep the hot peppers separate because of cross pollination with the sweet peppers. I also have a couple pink Gerber Daisy and some Calla Lilies near the house. The Black Squirrel, bunny, frog and the Raccoon guard the area. Can you see them all?

See the other neat post above.

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren,  Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Click to visit other sites.

We went to Columbus to to see the Columbus Crew play the Huston Dynamo. The Crew won the game 3-0.
The mascot is the Crew Cat, pretty cool.
The Goalie Hesner kept Houston away from the goal.
He made several diving saves during the game.
Crew Cat and Brutus Buckeye both scored a goal at the halftime mascot game. There was quite the conglomeration of mascots.
It was a fun time had by all.

I was fishing this morning and heard the woosh-woosh sound of a hot air balloon. It was just taking off and it rose above the lake. It was quite the show. Not bad photos for my lake camera a Canon Powershot A590.
Here is a close up of the balloon.

Header Competition # 41 - "Memories of Childhood"

The header theme this week by Gail's Man and is ""Memories of Childhood".  MacDarlaGail's Man,  Lanny and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week.

Martha and Tom are on a break. Come back as soon as you are able my friends.

The reason I have a Ohio Buckeye Tree in my yard is that there was a Horse Chestnut Tree in Raymond's yard. He was one of my best friends and I thought I would like to have a similar tree in my yard. I wish I had a Black Cherry Tree around back. There was some delicious fruit on that tree. So, what could you find to use a nut from the tree. Well one thing is to play catch. Another thing was to put a hole in it and tie three of them to strings. You could tackle someone with that Australian weapon. We used to load the electric lines full of them.
One of my favorite places to get hot dogs was Coney Island. It used to have some wicked sauce that would really clean you out. I know it isn't as strong anymore, I tried it yesterday.
The real thing about your childhood is you can't go back. I lived on a dirt road and we had a hill behind us that was weed covered. Now this was a pretty big hill and our hunting dogs lived on top. All the beagles were called Rip, no need to think up a new name. We also had bird dogs which were Spaniels. So in relating the story my header shows the big hill (LOL) and the dirt road that is now paved. Everything shrinks from your childhood. The only thing left is the garage that was behind Dave's house were we worked on his 49 Chevy for the drag strip.  My house burnt down to the ground and Dave's house was torn down. You really can't go back, there is nothing left but a memory.

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren,  Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Click to visit other sites.

The bridge at Crain Avenue is making progress. This is looking West to Fairchild Avenue across State Route 43. The water tank was shown on my blog at another time. This is part of the nations recovery act. They are also constructing a gas station in front of the gray house on the right.
Looking East the construction of the Fairchild Road. There are 3 roads closed so it makes it a lot harder to get to my house. The new bridge will not align with Crain (just to the left of the brown house) or Lake Avenue.

Camera Critters # 119 - Whitetail Buck in Velvet

This Whitetail Deer was quite comfortable grazing in my son's neighborhood. There were dogs barking and cars driving by but it just kept grazing. It did check me out when I got too close for its comfort. It determined that I and my two grandsons were of no harm.
There was an explosion of a house recently in my sons area and we had gone to see it. When we got back he asked if we had seen the deer in the yard.
I was able to walk close enough to get these photos of the young 6 point buck in velvet.
This shows how close to a shed it was moving. Is that a garden ahead?
See a lot of neat critters above.

Header Competition # 40 "A Sign or Poster That Caught Your Eye"

The header theme this week by Mac and is "A Sign or Poster That Caught Your Eye".  MacDarlaGail's Man and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. Lanny has joined in this week, glad to have her aboard.

Martha and Tom are on a break. Come back as soon as you are able my friends.

One of my favorite corn markets is this one in the Cuyahoga National Park with the corn grown near the Cuyahoga River.
Downtown Kent neat the old historical building is a sign that reminds me of a special time gone by for Kent.
I guess I must go back downtown and read the other side. John Brown fought for the Union side of the Confederate War.

George Adams from Tennessee added this information in his comment:
"On a historical note, John Brown was hanged in December, 1859, for his role in the raid on Harper's Ferry. This was over a year before the start of the War of Northern Aggression (I couldn't resist)".
Now here is a salon that I'l never go into for a drink, wait, shame on me. Why it's a hair salon, but I still won't go in with that sign.
My son's boys have quite the play area with this hideaway fort with a quick rope escape not far from the zip line.
But my favorite is a photo of the area from a different angle.

I went to my son's house for a visit. The boys were in an exploratory mood. The fountain flow was of interest.
The ladder for the zip line made a neat posing place.
They really wanted me to see the downfall area. They went in a lot deeper then I wanted to. They have a great land to supercharge the imagination.

Today's Flowers # 101 - Orchid

My friend Luiz from Brazil does the Today's Flowers Meme, check it out. Come and join with your flower photos. Sunday at 2 GMT is the post time.

My daughter is the queen of orchids and grows really neat varieties. The color on this one is hard to describe.
As you can see the bloom has some real variables in the color scheme.
I enhanced the border around one bloom to show its true beauty.
See a lot of neat flowers at the above link.

Camera Critters # 118 - Whitetail Fawns

The Whitetail Deer are very comfortable in my back yard. I looked out the window on Thursday morning and what did I see but a Mother and a fawn.
But look a little closer and what do you see?
Why there is one right behind the garden with its tongue sticking out. See the little one in the back eating the Hostas flower stem I had cut.
The one near the garden came around the side and was still showing the tongue.
So it moved on and the other was eating a flower stem came around. It was quite the show as they romped in the yard. Why what is this big animal in front of me? Nothing but a tree stump little one.
See a lot of other neat critters at the above site.

The Stow, Ohio 4th of July parade was today and the color guard kicked it off.
The Stow Band was in doing fancy footwork.
Iwo Gima was remembered by the WWII Veterans.
This was a neat paint job.
You need a few clowns in the parade.
Parades are so much fun, see what others have shown.
