"Tell a Story"

The theme this week is "Tell a Story" by Kathy.  Mac, Kathy, Lew, Christine and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT on Wednesdays and voting begins after that.

In 1961 10 Black Squirrels were brought from Canada to Kent State University. They brought 10 more later and they were very successful. It now the most prevalent squirrel in Kent, Ohio. Here is one in the Ohio Buckeye Tree in my front yard. They have expanded throughout Portage and Summit Counties.
The second most prevalent is the Eastern Gray Squirrel. They live side by side and get along well.
The rarer Fox Squirrel live in the more open golf course areas of Kent. They have been completely chased out of Kent State University.
The Red Squirrel is in the county but I have never seen on in Kent. I saw this one at Herrick's Fenn which is owned by Kent State.
Here is a Black Squirrels on my back deck.
The Black Squirrels are aggressive and hit the bird feeders and knocks the feed to the ground.
See what the others show on my side bar.

I have never seen a black squirrel around here.I wonder if I would like them any better than the little red ones.:)

Neat shots together with a neat story Tom.

I guess I should be thankful that we don't have black squirrels around here. The ones we have are aggressive enough when it comes to getting into the bird feeders.

I don't know what variety of squirrels we have in town (none but ground squirrels and/or "sage rats" out in our part of the rural area). They may be gray squirrels. There are lots of them on our church property and we like to watch them play and work up and down the trees.

There are also a lot of Chihuahuas in our town.

Now what , you may ask, has that to do with the squirrels? Had I had my camera at the ready one day a week or two ago, as we headed to the church, I could have snapped the whole story in one. We saw two Chihuahuas intent on a squirrel up a tree. They were very busily barking at it. But the squirrel was pretty safe as the dogs could not climb the tree. (I did see one of them half way up in a branch the other day.)

When we left the church a while later, we saw the two again, but this time they had a squirrel up a power pole.

Between the squirrels and the Chihuahuas here, we are well entertained.

Neat story of the squirrels, Tom. I've never seen a black squirrel in person before. I have a pesky squirrel that sneaks into my garden for breakfast every day. I've chased him out a few times, but he's pretty bold and won't move until I get pretty close. He came right up to our house one day, perched on the back of a patio chair, and peered into our window right at me!

We don't see many black squirrels here. When we do, it is a treat for the eye.
