Camera Critters # 11

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

I was driving my favorite road and noticed something in the hay field. What was that black animal? Was it something I wanted to be captured?

Well, the answer is yes. The Turkey Vultures are always circling but I haven't gotten a really good picture of one.
I took several shots from the car, then got out to get a little closer. They are a homely looking bird.
He finally got mad at me being there and took off. Here is the great thing about this picture, he went over a Blackbird which wasn't very happy. The Blackbird chased the Turkey vulture into the woods and I got to see a great show. Click to enlarge to see the Blackbird near the ground a little better.
Hope you all have a great Camera Critters.

  14. "Homely looking" are not quite strong enough words. That bird is UGLY! But, even ugly serves a useful purpose. Nice shots!

  20. Great shots. They are a homely bird but you can usually recognize one when you see one.

  21. Less creepy looking than the regular vulture, though eatherless heads are very necessary for birds in that profession. I hadn't realised they were so large.

  22. Great shots! I think you're brave to go near a wild bird like that. The Blackbird is twice as brave for chasing the Turkey Vulture away.

Thanks for visiting my entry at my other blog.

  27. I do visit and I do comment and I was here. I did look at your picture(s) and I did read what you wrote about them. I could say how great you are and how beautiful your work is but alas I would soon run out of things to say on the next blog I visited, so I just left this to prove I stopped and said a few words on Sunday.

My Rheumatoid Arthritis hurts so I am using the same message for all.

  33. Yes kinda homely turkey vulture like in all of the world - some attractive, some not so attractive! :)

  34. I often watch the little birds chasing the bigger birds and giving them 'heck' - it always makes me giggle, because I'm pretty little myself, so I can relate to those little birds ;-)

Great captures, my friend. Yes, they are homely looking, but there is a uniqueness about their look that I appreciate.

    P.S. I added you to the Camera-Critters Blogroll, I hope that's OK

  36. Great shot, my models won't stay still long enough or I am to slow on the draw. That is why dead fish worked for me this week. I missed a lynx, mule dear, moose and bear in the last two weeks.

  37. I don't think I've seen one of those before. Great Camera Critters capture!! A very unique bird.

Now, you know I am confused.......

    Which do I shoot first?

Oh yeah, not the vulture.....that'd be illegal.

  43. They are very interesting birds! We have quite a few of them near our cottage and I find them challenging to photograph.

I am late finding this meme ... my first attempt here I have a turkey vulture too further back in the postings.
