This is my Cornflower, a fancy bloom that comes back strong every year. I've also seen them called Bachelor Buttons.
This is the fancy colored bloom. Do you see a visitor? Click to get a better view.
Yes the Black Ants must have a relationship with this flower.
Here is the mature bloom a pretty blue color.
When it's a youngster it has a purple shade to it.
Beautiful flower also called Centaurea cyanus. I call it Bachelor button. I like it no matter what. MB

Great shots of the cornflowers/bachelor buttons/centaurea cyanus.
ReplyDeleteI have them in my garden and I like how hardy they are.
The third photo just screams to be framed.
I love perennial cornflowers, FG. We usually call them mountain bluets, but they ARE the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI call it a Bachelor's Button as well. Funny enough, now I know that it is also called a Cornflower I can see the resemblance to the old crystal pattern called cornflower. I still have some of my Grandmother's. Isn't it a beautiful colour? I like including visitors on my flower too!
ReplyDeleteGood shot. Nature is great: Ants, flowers, colors.
ReplyDeleteWell, you succeeded in me getting out my research book. It says "Bachelor's Button is called Bluebottle, and more commonly Cornflower, because it grows wild in the grain fields of southern Europe". Learn something new everyday. Great photos of what I called Bachelor's Button, but never had heard of them being called Cornflowers. Love the macro.
ReplyDeleteMine is up but not so nice as your photo. Mine is on thunder-maker.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI like the bee in your blue flower.
very beautiful..nice color
ReplyDeleteVery nice series.
ReplyDeleteYour photography is simply amazing. Have you thought of submitting some of your photos to Mother Earth News and GRIT? If they use your photo, they pay quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

hello my friend is with great pleasure that I go back to your blog, to see its magnificent photos with these beautiful flowers
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images!
ReplyDeleteThis flower looks a little different from what is commonly called a cornflower here, which grows wild on the edges of fields. These wildflowers have a fuller flower head, and are a distinct blue, which is even called "cornflower blue."
Here's an image of a wild Kornblume.
Do you know if there are wild flowers in the USA?
Sorry,
ReplyDeleteI meant to ask if there were wild "cornflowers" ;-)
beautiful flowers and colors, wonderful details.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe I'm familiar with this flower...very pretty! Thanks for stopping by Spatter...
ReplyDeleteMerisi: The cornflower started out as wildflowers and have been cultivated to be in the flower garden. I have to be agressive with them or they will take over the area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower, I've never seen it! You got a bee, too!
ReplyDeleteI grow Cornflowers in my garden also and they have two blooming periods. Very lovely!
ReplyDeletebeautiful series!
