My daughter called me over her house because she wanted me to see a monster spider. It was night and with a spotlight I was able to get this. I think it is a Cross Orb Weaver female. It is wrapping up a tasty moth. It wasn't as big as I thought but it did have a big body.
Her home is under a shingle on my daughters front porch.
This is a spider along side my flower garden. There are a lot more spiders building webs and getting ready for winter. I think this is a Funnel Web Spider.
I was taking my grandson Soccer Boy to the library to get a book. I saw something in the tree across the street. Can you see it?
I got my camera and went for a better look.
Yes, it was a nest of black paper hornets and the nest was well on it's way.
The light post had something funny going on. A group of Yellow Jackets were having a pow-wow.
they then singled filed into their home. What a funny sight to see.
Save the wasps. They eat bag worms. Brave camera work on spiders and yellow jackets. Have a great weekend. Pappy
ReplyDeleteWay cool spider!
ReplyDeleteWe have a black and yellow garden spider on our front porch with a lovely web going. I'll have to take some pictures for you.
The wasps give me chills!
Blessings!
Lacy
That sure is Critters galore! As long as they are where I am not - I'm ok! ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers, Klaus
I love the way you see things, Fishing Guy. Good eye, good attitude, and of course the resulting good pics.
ReplyDeleteFunnel webs--aren't they poisonous??
waagh!! all scary critters to me, but i know they all do good things... great photos!
ReplyDeleteNow I understand , what this Camera Critters is :)
ReplyDeleteYour post is very good adviser for it.
Greetings from Finland!
great shot!, the spiders and wasps are so cute..
ReplyDeleteEverywhere you look the critters are hard at work, wrapping up the season. Did your grandson find a good book on insects at the library? I need to find one. I had a field guide that went into a yard sale pile by mistake last year.
ReplyDeleteOh my... I stepped on a yellow jackets nest when I was young.. not a fun experience.
ReplyDeleteThese are really awesome shots, my friend! I always love visiting 'home'... errrr I mean your blog ;-)
Insectivora Avenue I think.
ReplyDeleteOn that day I had B&W film only. Other times I used colour transparency. It was some years before I had two Canon bodies or pocketable half-frame cameras.
Whoa! Lots of creepy things! But super cool camera pics happening! Wow... really neat! Lovin' the yellow jacket Pow-wow... had to giggle at that! Hehehe.... =D
ReplyDeleteMountain Retreat
Funny, my neighbor hollered at me this morning to get my camera. A spider also. I am in the middle of my Cataloochee Cove series, so I won't be posting right now. Hornet's Nest? Yike!!!
ReplyDeleteReally love that spider. The others, I'm not so sure of.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics... I want to do Camera Critters.
ReplyDeleteVery good post! You must know a lot about insects. Spiders are useful but I put them always outside. There are many kinds of spiders. Here in Holland they are not dangerous, but in Australia there are some pretty nasty spiders which bites are poisonous.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bug's world :-) when you have an eye for it, as you. P.S. No, I'm not related to Dr. Doolittle, hahaha, thanks for your humorous comment !
ReplyDeletestingingly beautiful sandy
ReplyDeleteThat spider is huge and the wasps. urgh. You ahve some fabulous captures today.
ReplyDeleteI like spiders over hornets and wasps any day! Garden spiders are actually great to have in the garden as they consume many pests.
ReplyDeleteFG, my arachnophobia is getting to me! Great shots....almost too great - I moved back from the screen. lol
ReplyDeleteI really don't like any of those critters. Great pics anyway.
ReplyDeleteI've seen spiders all over blogland the past couple of weeks and have been envious. I had to smile when I saw yours - I finally got one this morning that I'll post one day this week.
ReplyDeleteI like that pow-wow of yellow jackets.
the spider looks interesting. but the hornetsss oohhh am gonna run for life. :)
ReplyDeleteYour creepy crawlies look great on pictures but I'll pass on them up close! :)
ReplyDeleteYou got really close to those spiders!
ReplyDeleteWell... I have the impression that the insects in your region are a little bit big in size! :-) Personally, I would never have the courage to take these photos of the spider! I would scream and run away certainly! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Sunday and a happy CC!
If people would look around more often they can discover a lot of life in their own garden. Awesome pictures!
ReplyDeleteEwwwww-I don't like either of those things! But great photos!
ReplyDeleteLove the spiders! You can keep the yellow jackets and hornets. Had I been taking the pictures, one of them would have charged me. They're fun like that when I am around! Fun post anyway.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte the Spider from Charlotte's web sure has some gigantic cousins in her spider family.
ReplyDelete35-3 Ohio State lost big time. OUCH!!!
