Sometimes when I'm not catching fish I go out looking for shots. This day I was chasing a double of Double Breasted Cormorants. There were a pair sitting on the large buoys surrounding the pump.
They let me get fairly close before deciding to leave.
The one jumped in the water and started to swim.
He swam over to the other and I followed.
The closer I got the other decided to jump in also.
Eventually they tired of the chase and this one took off with the typical Cormorant splashes. It's like a water ballet as they take flight.
The second one also took flight and I caught him walking on water.
That's the Cormorant show on Lake Hodgson.

I've never heard of them. Great shots, though. Especially the walking on water!
ReplyDeleteThey are very interesting birds to watch...almost look like snakes in the water when they swim. Those last two shots you took are great!! I love the splashes of water as they flapped down the water runway!! Your timing was perfect.

And a great show it was! I love the rock-skipping take-off. These are such fun to watch, especially diving or taking off.

ReplyDeleteI love the way they each have their own buoy :-) If I was fishing and had my camera, too, I'd probably drop both in the water trying to switch back and forth. I like that last shot...reminds me of skipping stones on the water. I guess it's a lot harder to skip birds :-)

ReplyDeleteVery cool! Once I took a bunch of photos (a looong time ago on a regular SLR camera)and called it "stalking puffins." I took picture after picture with a step between each. This reminds me of that, but I think you managed to get closer.
