What do you do when you go out into gray skies that are not that appealing. You can see the sky was doing me no favors. What really hurt, neither were the fish. Out comes the boat camera and see what happens. The trees are starting to turn to their Fall costumes.
The skies had shut down and so did the fish, why I looked for an added bonus in the sky. There was some bird activity on the lake. Four geese flew by without the 'V' formation.
This shot was my favorite as a single goose silhouetted against the stark sky. I heard him behind the trees and was ready for him to break over them. There was starting to be a little blue in the lower right corner.
The sun then slowly came out a little later I was able to take a reflective shot of a gull on a buoy.
The lesson learned is 'with some luck the sky will change, but in the mean time see what the camera will capture'. When I took the flying goose photo I thought this didn't work. Do you like any of my stark sky photos?
your photos are great, the sky changes fast as we were commenting about that on Leedra's blog. So sorry the fish let you down.
ReplyDeleteI like the bird silhouette. The colors look a lot different around here than they did Monday. Maybe next week we will all be posting fall colors.
ReplyDeleteGrey skies there might have been but you found not one shot but three.. a true sky watcher if ever there was one.. :O)
ReplyDeleteNice SWF.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of photos.
Come visit anytime,
Troy
Hi my friend, great shots and doing 2 of your fav things, fishing and Skywatching eh.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great - they captured what was in front of the lens, right!?? Seems to be more gray than anything in my skies right now too. And guess what - no fish either (not that I'm trying - just hoping to make you feel better :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF - thanks for stopping by!
A great series of photos! Happy skywatch :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's. What better way to spend a day....photography AND fishing!!
ReplyDeleteTake care
It is quite all right with me - I'm used to that kind of sky!
ReplyDeleteNice contribution to SWF. Always something to see and worth 'shooting'.
ReplyDeletelove all the bird shots!
ReplyDeleteI like the grey skies with those birds! Stunning shots there! My SWF is posted HERE. Have a great day!~
ReplyDeleteLet me start out by saying your gull looks like he is sitting on a floating pumpkin - perfect for fall. Okay now that I have said that, I think the stark skies are still beautiful and it is amazing the things a camera will pick up that is not necessarily visible to the naked eye.
ReplyDeleteI like the silhouette of the single goose the best FG. I'm surprised the trees don't look as changed as they do here.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the same is yours... as the colors get introduced. Not a fan of stark skies... no potential for storm chasing there. Great captures though.
ReplyDeleteGray sky's not the limit! ;-)
ReplyDeleteVery creative, great eye.
Well, when you find fishing boring or not getting any fish, you always have your camera:)
ReplyDeleteNice shots!
What a great set of shots, FG!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteThe skies do look a bit dreary, FG. And what a bummer that the fish weren't biting either! I bet by NEXT week, the sun will come out. (Sorry, but I can't help teasing you. Hope you don't mind.)
ReplyDeleteHappy Sky Watch!
Great shots with the geese. I don't think I could have pulled that off. really enjoyed your skywatch photos.
ReplyDeleteAh..very well done...making the most of what we have at the time..isn't that all about life?
ReplyDeleteAnnie
I like all of them of course I always do.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite picture is the one with the goose. Here we have these days also grey sky.
ReplyDeleteMy little son is hooked on your pictures from the squirrels! They are amazing!
Very nice compositions, great Sky Watch!
ReplyDeleteThe lone goose is great. The first photo is cool too with just a tinge of fall showing...
ReplyDeleteI like the way your series ended!
ReplyDeleteThe skies and birds are fine, but I'm excited about seeing the trees start to change color.
ReplyDeleteThe second shot is impressive... you can see the wing span on that fella! Great silhouette! I love the gull bobbing on the buoy... that's cute! That's what I love about your photography... it's fun and always a treat to see...
ReplyDeleteGood job!!
Have a great weekend!

Mountain Retreat
It is annoying when the sky doesn't cooperate. I get these beautiful sunny skies when I'm having to get somewhere with no time to get some shots of the trees and when I do not as pretty skies. Our forecast is good for the weekend so 'fingers crossed'. Love the shot of the single goose the best, even with your grey skies.
ReplyDeleteJust a few "costumes" shows the contrast. I like the shot.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reason the geese weren't in the v formation is because they were flapping like crazy trying to catch the others.
I like your stark sky shots very much. Fun seeing what arrived in the sky for you but even without that, I like those gray skies.
ReplyDeleteI took some at the Island last night that were so stark I couldn't rescue them. At least you got something. Pappy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds at the stark grey sky! Stunning shots!
ReplyDeleteOh i love all the photos, at first i thought the buoy was a big balloon.
ReplyDeleteIt is getting so that many grey skies are coming.
can't go wrong fishing and skywatching, right? love the single goose pic -- terrific. happy skywatch friday. :)
ReplyDeleteNo mstter whzt the sky was doing, you fond some nice shots anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo fish? That's scary, coming from you. :) But at least the sky is still there and you're still skywatching!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great. I prefer the last one because of the light.
ReplyDeleteBird silhouettes are a wonderful way to frame the sky, always interesting to see what is going on in the sky in different parts of the globe. Thanks for sharing with sky watch friday.
ReplyDeleteA nice capture of the geese!
ReplyDeleteMust be due to Halloween round the corner! I actually thought the buoy was a pumpkin.. *blushed*
ReplyDeleteHappy Skywatch!!
Grey skys are part of life, but no fish is just plain sad. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Love the shot of the goose with its wings spread wide, soaring. Happy SkyWatch.
ReplyDeleteI like these, and not least because I know about grey days and fish playing hard to get. They are real and beautiful. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGive the weather just a minute and it will change!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are good, but I'm so sorry about the fish not biting...that stinks!
Nice shots! I can see why you like that shot of the lone bird. It's a nice one! :-)
ReplyDeleteGrey is tough, that's for sure. But the single goose above the silhouetted trees works great... it would have been just as good without the bit of color peaking through the clouds. Maybe even a little more autumn-y.
ReplyDeleteI love your recent Heron shots, too! I find they are among the easiest birds to spook...I am always trying to get pictures of them, but I usually get only a grey blur flying away.
I like ALL of your sky photos!
ReplyDeletevery beautiful series for swf my friend
ReplyDeleteYour photos are very nice! You did great capturing the bird flying over. I am way too slow to do that! Maybe the fish are busy getting ready for winter. :-)
ReplyDeleteIn Holland we have often grey skies, actually more often than not! So your photos are great! Showing that every where in the world we see this greyness in the sky.Today it's rather sunny for a change. Thank you for your visit! BTW I didn't see the gull on the lamppost until you drew my attention to it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots! I love photos with birds in it:)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend:)
Loved the gull shot - looks like he's sitting on a pumpkin!
ReplyDeletePretty color of the sky...Great one.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed i love all of them! Thank you for you kind comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy skywatch and look forward to it every week!Have a great weekend!
I like them all....you have one of the happiest blogs in the blogosphere.
ReplyDeletenice sky watch post. have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe goose is my favorite, especially with a cropped tree below. Interesting & great contrast ofcourse. Have a great weekend too.
ReplyDeleteReally great photos. My photo for this week is a lot like your bird flying in the sky.
ReplyDeleteLove your bird shots. I was told once that where the birds are, there are fishes. I wonder if that is true. Or just some fisherman's tall tales. Happy skywatching.
ReplyDeleteThat buoy added some much needed colour and that´s why it´s my favourite too.
ReplyDeleteGray skies ... love the contrast of the orange thingie
ReplyDelete:-Daryl
There is much wisdom in your post and in your pictures!
ReplyDeleteFG, great blog, enjoying looking at all your recent posts. Love the black squirrel! Never saw a blk squirrel here in our area! Glad to see that you keep your camera handy ready to use at any moment...nothing like having a pic of the one that almost got away!:) Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks for sharing. Going to check out that sky watch!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed -- the sky it is a-changin'!
ReplyDeleteI posted more of my story (untitled, STILL) and would love to hear what you think.
No pressure.
Nope.
I just REALLY want your feedback. That's all. :)
Blessings,
Lacy
Wonderful photos as always. Always enjoy my visit here. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe shot of the gull on the bouy is my favorite. Looks like it has landed on a giant pumpking.
ReplyDeleteBeutiful :)
ReplyDeleteI do like your stark photos-they seem appropriate for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures, especially the one of the goose! I know what you mean about grey skies. Sorry you didn't catch any fish, but these shots are very nice!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Love the first one of the woods.
ReplyDeleteLisa
I love that you include the birds too! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a different looking buoy! It does look like a pumpkin. That single bird capture is spectacular. It's a great big one that didn't get away--unlike the fish in some stories I've heard. ;>}
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos! I enjoyed the bird silhouette as well! Great SWF post!
ReplyDeleteUh, did "Louis" hear you right about the girl being on the boy?
ReplyDelete(Editor to "Louis:" You stupid vache, that was a GULL on a BOUY!
"Louis:" oh. I misunderstood. )
The first one, the goose one, the last one with reflections - oh, that;s all of them. ;0)
ReplyDeleteI did this for a while too - and I ended up photographing anything that had wings! lol
Great shots. Skies are getting greyer now at this time of year.
I like the geese and the trees. Grey skies can be interesting, but I'll admit that usually not on camera. But no matter what, the sky is full of wonder.
