In this post I'm going to show you a major part of Kent, Ohio. This is Kent State University. It is run by the State of Ohio and it was established as a college in 1910.
The sports teams are known as the Golden Flashes and they have a Golden Eagle as a mascot. If you click on the water tower you can see a Golden Eagle with a lightning bolt coming out of its wing. Also check out the weather station on top of the tower. The tower is on one of the highest points in the area.
This is the science building where they can put on a sky show on the ceiling. I have taken the grand kids to see the show a few times.
Just one block past the end of the university property on Main Street is a restaurant called Rockne's. My Grandson Golf Boy used to like to go there and would say "Can we go to Rock and Roll for dinner". We knew exactly what he meant. They were playing old Rock and Rolls songs on their radio last night. It is a good place to get a meal and the helpings are large. this is Misty's favorite so I hope it makes her hungry.

And what a very lovely world it is! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYummy looking salad!

Lacy

ReplyDeleteSorry I didn't notice there was no Australia after my name when I logged in. I was so intent on joining, I didn't check.
In my mind's eye, I always associate the iconic picture of the protester killed on campus during the Vietnam War days with Kent State. Of course, time moves on and Vietnam is now ancient history. I find it reassuring that life, cities, and campus heal, and move on.

ReplyDeleteA nice visit to Kent State. Now I need to eat!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we have Rockne's here...but we have Fuddruckers or something like that. I was horrified the first time I saw that place...then I read it again.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm hungry.
Kent looks like a nice place to go to college. The food look delicious-you've made me hungry!
ReplyDeleteI have a special connection to Kent State even though I've never been there. The shootings there in 1970 took place on my 10th birthday. I never forget the date, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteRockne's reminds me of a place called "Beans" that used to be on 6th Street in Austin, TX. The food was unbelievable, and if you left there hungry it was your own fault! Best of all, four of us went there for dinner, drinks and dessert and got out for just over $40 (this was 1985-'86 dollars, but still...)
Thanks for the tour!
Yummy post! That food looks delicous. Thanks for sharing your part of the world with us.

ReplyDeleteI love seeing other peoples favorite food haunts! That salad and burger made me hungry!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a piece of your world. I haven't had breakfast and that hamburger and fries looks really good right now. :-)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question on my post, our water levels are dependent upon how much rain we get. We got a lot of rain last year and there was water and streams everywhere and the mountains more full of snow than I'd seen in a while.
Okay, I confess that I came back to drool over the burger. Oh yum!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Lacy
May I have that salad please?!!!
ReplyDeleteYou think Rockne's will ship their meals? bwahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteHubs LOVES the Buffalo Chicken Salad - in fact, on our anniversary, I would order it for take out and bring it home for him. He also loves their quesedilas (however the heck you spell it). My favorites are the gyro and their chicken sandwich with the special sauce (I think it's the Max sauce). Yummmmmmmm
Ah my friend, if you talked to my husband or my step-kids, they would say that you forgot the BEST part of Rockne's... The Bacon Cheddar Fries! Those are a favorite in my family!
Gee thanks - now you've got me drooling all over my keyboard - and I've got to go 750 miles to satisfy this craving!!! ;-)
Goooooooo Flashes!!!
Good ad for the restaurant !
