This is my posting for the
My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were 74 people (Mr. Linky problems) showing their world to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Here is part of 'My World'.
Kent State University planted these three trees to remember the actions on 9/11/2001. They are in front of the Student Center. This is near the main parking lot for visitors.

Here is a plaque showing the reason for the trees.

The leaves though similar are all distinctive. This is the Sugar Maple leaf.

This is the leaf of the Norway Maple.

This is the leaf of the Red Maple.

What a wonderful tribute to remember the day. Try to visit some of the other worlds of people shown above.
What a wonderful memorial. I don't know who came up with the idea, but it perfectly symbolizes the difference and similarities the victims (and we) share.
ReplyDeleteThese leaves look healthy enough. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteI assume you would have Eastern Meadowlarks up there where you live. You need tall grass to attract them and a post now and then.
Very interesting....Do you like Ohio Buckeyes Baseball? We, Florida State gave them a pretty good spanking.....LOL I thought of you when I saw the score on the news.
ReplyDeletei liked the words on the plaque...simply put but oh so to the point.

ReplyDeleteA living memorial is so much more poignant than a stone staue. Thanks for posting this, somehow it gives one hope.
ReplyDeleteYou reminded me that I should take part in My world meme one of these days...
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Sri Lanka!
That is a great memorial. Maple was always maple to me - didn't know there were many varieties. Thanks for the information and the photographs.
ReplyDeleteWow...I had no idea. In the late 1970's there was a movie on television about what happened there.
ReplyDeleteI was a child when it happened, and though I heard about it, I was too young to care or understand.
I was the age of the kids who died, when I saw that movie, and I cried, and could not stop.
Thank you for sharing this.
I love Maples!! And this is a great tribute too.
ReplyDeleteNice memorial. I saw Kent State was in a baseball regional in Arizona and thought of you, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat My World photos.

ReplyDeleteLovely memorial..
ReplyDeleteThat is a day I will never forget.
My most vivid memory of that day, is my daughter, sitting on the couch for ages, riveted to the TV and still holding the spatula that she had been using to turn some eggs she was cooking for breakfast..
The words on that plaque are beautiful...
