What Is It XXXI - Answers

We had some great guesses this week and some fun banter.

#1 Is a grass that grows 9 foot tall (Giant Reed - Phragmites australis per Tom). It grows near the soccer field. This stock was bent over and was still at 5 foot. Tipper was the first one to say grass so I have to give her credit. I do love her site with the great mountain lore. Joan did guess grass in an E-mail, you didn't think it was her hair for real. The second is a snow plow with a flag holder that was broke off on both sides. I was hoping the shape might have said snow plow to the Northerners. Carletta came up with a flag holder which was a big part of the photo. She always has great photos. Craver came in a close second and got two and a half correct. He has a neat macro bug shot today.
#3 Well everyone could see the geese, two groups in fact, but did you see the Snapping Turtle near the stick-up near the shore. You definitely had to click on the photo. That turtle had some great camouflage with the leaves on its back and the moss on its side. Nature Lovin Super Mama had a great guess with the geese and the turtle head. She has a neat site from the tip of the mitt in Michigan. Craig did say snapping turtle but it wasn't under the bridge.
I do welcome Bro into the fracas with some good guesses for his first shot. He doesn't have a blog but maybe he will someday. He is one of my favorite BIL's and takes neat photos.

  1. Yippee!! I beat him again. LOL!!

    COngrats to all the winners!!

Tom, I could not see that turtle no matter how hard I looked at it. Excellent one there!!

I am just waiting to see how soon Bro takes sides here. LOL!!

  2. OH, so now she is emailing her multiple guesses! I suppose if you guess enough options you are bound to hit something!!! eventually!!!!

Sometimes Tom I think you placate that bug lady (she really is a nice lady, but don't tell her I said so) a little too much!

How do you know there is not another one (ok so there probably wasn't but that was a good guess right?) under that bridge! Just because you didn't see it!!! In fact he is a little bigger that this one so I figured you didn't even count him!

What the heck is a snow plow? you can't plant nuttin' in the snow, even I know that and I have seen snow a few times too (let's get a ruling from bro, he's a good ole boy right?).

And hello, flag!!!! I said flag too!!! (so it wasn't on an outhouse, but have you ever smelled a plow after you disc a cow pasture?)

So by my count I got two out of three! Not bad for a country boy born and raised in south Ga (no snow there either).

Well congratulations to the winners (do they pay you by check?). I guess the Bug Lady will try to twist this into a win for her (she probably needs the attention poor thing) but that's ok, mama always said "be nice to the old timers! LOL

  4. They're gettin harder & harder every week, Tom. I was afraid to guess yesterday, but I was close on the 1st one.

  5. ok, I got the grass and the birds, but the other totally stumped me:)

  6. Tom- Your grass is Phragmites, or Giant Reed. Scientific name Phragmites australis. It is a horrible nasty invasive species of wetlands. Miscanthus sometimes escapes in southern Ohio, but I've only seen it in landscaping up your way.

  7. Me neither Darla!! No snow in SA let alone snow plows. :)

I said it was a handle Tom albeit of a lawnmower and I think that is close to a snow plow to count that one for me too.

So my count is 2/3 and his 0/3 as I did not see imaginary turtles and catfish!! You can see where he comes from they do not do any fishing or come near ponds. (You know these hillbillies are scared of water as they never bath.)

End result: Yippee!! I win again! LOL!! Beat him hands down as usual.

I am waiting to see what Bro says and if he agrees with me. Whats the bet he is going to sit on the fence with this one. LOL!! (Sorry Bro, if you are going to join in I am going to tease you too. :) )

Craig: Of course you do not know what a snow plow is. After all you don't even know what snow is!! (He thinks it is that white fluffy stuff they decorate cakes with.

Old timers?? OLD TIMERS??? I guess when compared to your age I am. LOL!!

  8. My goodness !! I see you two are up and at it again! lol My sides are still sore from yesterday.

Well, I guess I flunked this one with a big fat zero, but I think an outhouse was a great guess. (looked nothing like a snowplow)

I really am not taking sides here but I'm glad to hear it was a turtle. I was going crazy looking for an elephant.

  9. Bro: As I said...I knew you were going to sit on the fence with this one. LOL!! Can't say I blame you as I would not want to get in the middle of this war either. Don't worry, we are quite civilized towards each other the rest of the week. :)

  10. That turtle was tricky. Great job with the picture puzzle Fishing Guy!

Born and raised in Chicago, I've seen lots of snow plows, but I didn't guess exactly. I suppose I'm just not ready to be thinking about snow, especially since I'm taking my family camping this weekend.

  11. Oh my goodness... Sometimes I that Bug Lady makes this stuff up as she goes! Did you even read bro's comment? He was overwhelming on my side of the fence! It wasn't even close! He all but ran the bus straight over you!

    ~sigh~

Clearly a victory for ME (again). It is difficult dealing with some people sometimes. Don't worry BL, Thursday is right around the corner and we can be friends again. How 'bout I write you another poem to cheer you up. You know how your mental faculties clear up a bit when you are happy.

I almost hate doing this to you every week. (LOL, not even a little bit). No Really! I do...

    LOL

  12. That was a hard one FG! I am ashamed I didn't get the snowplow...but in my defense our plows are bigger up here.. I live in a snowbelt area and we once shipped snow down to georgia for xmas b/c it was caving in buildings...seriously! As for the turtle head I must be honest...that was a long shot guess...I thought it was popping out of the water...no where close to the "real" turtle. So Craig got it first...thanks for the shout out and have a great day!

  13. Craig: I just KNEW you were going to be sneaky and post a comment when you thought I was sleeping so I waited up for you and sure as shooting, there you go!!

Bro was NOT taking your side as he was clearly looking for the elephant I saw walking past. It was gone by the time he looked of course as they do not stay long in the picture.

Bro: What I meant to say was I am civilized but I cannot account for you-know-who. These no telling what he will get up to next. We have a wonderful love/hate relationship and dont tell him I said so, but he is actually quite a sweet guy when he wants to be. LOL!!

  28. Hi Tom,

It has just come to my attention that someone has hacked my blogger user profile!!! (shock and horror)

It seems that for the last two days someone disguised as me has been posting mean things about that sweet lady down in South Africa! (I know, how terrible)

I have regained control and changed all my passwords. I don't know who it was but they certainly owe that kind dear woman an apology!

    The real,

  31. I am a victim of ID comment theft!

I find you comments very hurtful... :(

I see now I will have to catch this scoundrel and bring him to light in order to prove my pure heart. You know deep down that I would only say kind and loving things about you!

I suspect this bro character! He was having way too much fun over the last two days!

See I already have a suspect! This case is practically solved already!!!

  34. Craig: That is awful when someone steals your identity, you should be really careful because that person was saying some scandalous things about Joan.

  35. Folks have so much fun with this guessing game you do!!! We just fixed our snow plow this week, had cracks that needed welding, you know, slamming into ice that needs to be moved.

I received your fantastic fox photo in the mail and what a surprise to have the deer on the back! Thank you so much for your generosity and fun! It now lives in a little log cabin in the NW of MT.

    Thank you!
