Camera Critters # 78

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

My Black and Gray Squirrels have been very busy in this wet weather stripping my Ohio Buckeye Tree clean of the nuts. It only took them a week to do it. Here is one on a branch getting ready to open the buckeye. Did I tell you it was wet and dreary all week.
This one had gotten a nut and was going to bury it in the yard.
This is one in the tree that had stripped the shell and was now ready to have a treat in the tree.
The Ohio Buckeye is poisonous to humans but the squirrels love them. I saved a few for a picture later on my deck railing. I hope it works. I will show the gray Squirrels next week.
You can see a lot of neat critters above.

  1. Thanks for the great pictures of your black squirrels. The squirrels are working away down here as well, but right now we have more nuts than they can handle. I hope you get some great pictures on your deck rail.

  4. Are those nuts not terribly prickly on the outside? It must take some courage to bite into that.

  7. Hi Tom,

Good shots of the squirrels. It was rainy or cloudy most of the time in elk country, too. Hopefully we will hit upon a period of more stable weather soon.

  20. I love our little black squirrels. The have stopped chewing up our feeder--must be enough nuts and seeds that they prefer right now.
Have you tried dried corn on the cob? Our neighbors have a a squirrel feeder on their deck and that's what they use.

  22. The squirrels in our area are happy the rain has stopped for the most part. We didn't see them for almost a week it rained so much. Now they are busy collecting nuts to their hearts content.
