Camera Critters # 83 - Snakes


I was walking past the garden the other day and the pepper plants had a guest. It was the Common Garter Snakes. They are referred to as Gardener Snakes because of the time they spend in the garden. This was actually two snakes curled together for warmth high in the plant to get the sun.
I don't like snakes that well but a chance for a photo overcomes my fears.
You can see the way the two are weaved together.
So my final shot is a close up of that reptilian eye and skin.
I do hope you enjoyed a close look at the gardener's friend. They eat bugs and other pests in the garden. I hope they are not there at harvest time.

    Nice! I have been trying to get a good snake photo since I started my nature blog. Still don't have one.

    Great captures of the garter snakes. I have seen one but never two together. I am glad that are at your place and not mine.

    I've found that my feelings about some types of animals have changed as I photographed them. Snakes included.

    I'm used to seeing garter snakes that are bri.ht green. Methinks I need to do some reading about the different types.

    I know that snakes can be so useful --in getting rid of some of our garden pests. BUT--I am still scared of them.. Don't know why--but I am!!!!

    Okay, on the one hand I don't like snakes...on the other hand I still don't like snakes...but I do make an exception for the Garter snake...this is one that does not sent me screaming through the woods like my feet were on fire. I happen to love them. Don't ask me why. I began trying to catch and hold them when I was about 2 years old, or so the Mama stories said...must be a genetic flaw...love the pictures.

    They are beautiful! We don't get many water snakes any more. It is a shame. Ou neighbour used to kill them. They do such good - balance of nature and cycle of life.

    I just crossed path with a garden snake in a public park this afternoon. My younger son said it's just a harmless little snake and he wanted to catch it but I told him to leave it alone. Of course I did managed to captured it in photos.
