Camera Critters # 87 - American Crow

The feeder by the shed attracts many animals, every once in a while crows come to it. How many crows do you see? If you said 5 you better click on the photo to make it larger.

The American Crow is a majestic bird that was almost eliminated because of pesticides which the farmers used.

Here is the black squirrel and the crow at close quarters.

I caught this one flying by.

Here is one who came to the front feeder for a close-up on a brighter day.

You can see a lot of critters above.

  1. Hi, Tom. That last shot of the crow is wonderful--perfect lighting to show off those glossy black feathers. Crows are fascinating birds.

  2. Very handsome birds, Tom. I only saw 4 until I clicked to enbiggen, which is a lesson to remember.

Love your header photo, too. I must get to Kent for a visit some day.

  4. I do think they are a majestic bird with lovely black feathers; but they steal my birdseed, eat my apples, and make a lot of noise. :)
I like the last shot too.

I'm noticing the green grass again; but it's because I have snow this morning!

Great photos of the crow. He's a beautiful but often maligned bird. Cool shot with crow and squirrel in the same photo.

  9. We have lots of crows around here, Tom. They are LOUD---but I read where they scare away the hawks... So--that is good.

  14. I like crows (perhaps I'm nutz???). I used to visit New Mexico every year and it was always a joke between my hubby and I that the crows would come out of hiding just to see me! Love the last shot!

    Great header!

  20. My grandfather always told us that Crows made good neighbors. He never allowed a murder of crows to be disturbed on his property...he even had one who like to ride his shoulder, rather like a parrot. I love crows to this day, putting out corn and seed for them along with the other birds we feed. Thanks so much for this post, it made me smile with memory of my Daddy Dwight
