I was at Plum Creek Park this Summer and the people told me of a rescue snake being shown.
I went over to take a look and hopefully get some photos.
The handler was very co-operative and let me get in close for photos.

It was a beautiful Reticulated Python that had been abandoned. It would have never made it through our Ohio Winters. They were using it as a teaching tool to teach the proper handling and care of these large snakes.

You can see a lot of critters above.

Cool shots of the snake. I am happy to hear it was rescued.
ReplyDeleteEEEEU! Though it is truuuue, I dislike snakes..that was COOOOL!
ReplyDeleteThe last photo was really nice with his eye!
I do feel for the wilder pets that should NOT be sold..for the folks that are not savvy and do what they did to this creature.
So glad it got rescued!

Nice shots! I am thankful that my son has always loved all things nature, especially reptiles and amphibians. He actually kept a number of snakes and geckos and volunteered at our local museum, where he worked in the encounter center and was either the or one of the youngest participants in "Sunday Afternoon with the Scientists". He did educational presentations and talks like the guy in your post. He also went to a few classrooms to talk, too.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, because of him, I do not overly fear or hate snakes. I do stay away from them when I see them, though. It really bothers me when people automatically kill a snake when they see one.
He's a beauty FG!
ReplyDeletei love snakes, and this guy sure is a cool one. i hate that people 'let go' of their pets in the wild...especially non native species, so i'm happy to hear this guy was rescued!
ReplyDeleteCrazy, people buy things like that not realizing how by they will get. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy CC
I wouldn't dare hold that!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever ride a carabao?
What a beautiful reptile!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see people take care of these critters,so they can live.Nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Beautiful shots. I have great issues with showing these critters, but we must have respect for them. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI'm so fascinated by these critters but only if they are small enough to handle... these are terrific photos.
ReplyDeleteYour blog header is amazing.
I have a lot of catching up to do...
I missed you, I have been thinking so much about you and your family.
Hugs and kisses, please be well.
I have updated my other blog...

GROSS!!
ReplyDeletethe snake is beautiful
ReplyDeleteA smile from SJ =)
You got some great pictures of the python, but I think I would prefer meeting up with some of the beautiful clouds you captured in the post below. Great job on both posts.
ReplyDeletesuch a gorgeous critter!
ReplyDeletenice but i wouldn't dare to go near it..
ReplyDeletethat is a dangerous beauty if ever i saw one.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from the zoo, and saw a reticulated pyhton there, it's huge! I think I just stay from a distance watching the snakes....
ReplyDeleteFG, in my humble and very biase opinion no gosh darn snake is beautiful. Ugly, ugly, ugly. Scarry, scarry, scarry! As ugly as a tattoo on a baby.
ReplyDeleteFor those who hate snakes, the world would be quite different if they weren't around. We'd have an overpopulation of insects and rodents, for one thing.
ReplyDeleteFishing Guy, I hope you don't mind I came back and said this. I'm not trying to cause a heated debate or anything, but just wanted to come to the defense of the critters.
Peace,
Sue
Beautiful! It irritates me to death that these creatures are taken out of the wild! The reactions caught in these comments are quite interesting! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat MARVELOUS photos of this python ... reminds me of folks who used to bring reptiles and snakes to my classroom for a visit! Thanks for sharing ;-)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
My Camera Critters
Such a handsome fellow, I am glad to hear he was rescued. I too get very angry when hearing about people who basically throw away pets because they were too much trouble for them.
ReplyDeleteThese beautiful creatures have an important place in our world and deserve our respect.
wow It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing there wonderful pictures and fabulous "close up"!
Did you feel fear about it?

Nice, you didn't let him crawl on your arm? :-)
ReplyDeleteOH MY! How sad that someone abandoned it.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? That snake has a pretty face. I mean it. And the eye is in such sharp focus, I can see the background.
ReplyDeleteYikes-sad that it was deserted.
ReplyDeleteI worked at a pet shop for a very short time a couple of years ago. They had a very large reticulated python behind glass. I did not go anywhere near that snake.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, though, FG. Not sure I'd get that close myself.
Creepy, but great photos!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh he's absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad he was rescued!
ReplyDeletePsssst - I really like the Mallard header photo, and this little contest you and your friends have going is really neat!
