One block from the center of Kent you have the old Kent Hotel. It has been out of business and in disrepair for quite a while.
The city tried to encourage downtown business so it helped in building Acorn Alley right beside the hotel.
There are about a dozen and a half businesses lining Main Street and through what use to be an alley way beside a dry cleaners. There are ten businesses that face the alley way.
Here is a look from the back looking down main. It is a neat development if they can get the hotel out of court and back into a refurbished building of some sort.

Nice to see these buildings - trying to get trade back into the towns and cities.
ReplyDeleteI hope that works out ... in Portugal traditional trade as we call it also faces huge problems but people are starting to regain that feeling of going to a shop where they now the owner and the employees ...

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see so many towns trying to recover their downtown. It's so much nicer than going to a mall!
ReplyDeleteDowntown rehab, sometimes it works grandly and sometimes it goes through about a dozen phases, each one promising what the last couldn't deliver. Hope your downtown works, it is nice and clean, I like the brick work.

ReplyDeleteThere is an appeal about your Acorn Alley, but it might be cold and damp by the river at times, I am sure it would be very pleasant at other times. I would like shopping there I think.

Some companies have been doing some of that refurbishing around here.
