The American Crow is a special bird with a neat coat of black. A hard bird to photograph in low light conditions.

It is a large bird and reminds you of a Raven. When I see the bird I always think about Poe's poem "The Raven" knocking at the door and the lost Lenore. I learned this poem in college and I can still remember a lot of the words.

I love their stately look.

They have a wing span of three feet in flight.
You can see a lot of neat critters at the above site.

Black birds always seem mysterious to me. Great captures!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Great close-ups!
ReplyDeleteI played too :)
Hello Tom
ReplyDeletewow this little bird is elegant, that last shot is fabulous!
And...I guess he enjoyed a lot posing for your camera!

I love the last bird. That wing span looks fabulous and the composition is so good.
ReplyDeleteNeat shots of teh crows. They are piggies too, they can really chow down on my suet.
ReplyDeleteThey bring Poe to my mind as well and they are a huge bird. If only they would leave my apple trees alone in the summertime. :)
ReplyDeleteNice shots even in the low light!
Great pictures.I agree, they are difficult to photograph, but you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Hello Fishing Guy..I just watched a video on crows making tools to get food. Very smart birds.. My CC is of a deer...Michelle
ReplyDeleteI love crows. They always seemed so mysterious to me -- almost like they know all there is to know and will share if we have the right questions! Wonderful shots. Love the header!
ReplyDeletemagnificent shots! I especially like the one where he/she is staring straight at the camera!
ReplyDeleteExcellent snaps. I like them too, but I always had difficulty distinguishing between raven and a crow. So crows can be very big, but I think its not the size. Thanks for sharing your photos, and thoughts. Anna :)
ReplyDeleteIt did remind me of E.A.Poe's poem...beautiful photos here.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the photo of the crow in flight! Very good, FG!
ReplyDeleteLove the flying crow!
ReplyDeletePlease take a peek at the Mocking Bird at my page.
Caw, Caw!
ReplyDeleteReally great pictures, Tom.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, ravens are very difficult to photograph because they always fly away quickly!
Nice captures Tom, love the fly off.
ReplyDeleteI can almost pet the header ha sandy
ReplyDeleteRavens and crows usually put me in mind of Poe when I encounter them. They do have a unique sort of aura to them. Very nice shots there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures of the raven. Love your new header with the deer's snowy nose.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of the crows, Tom. We have alot of BIG ones around here. They can get up in the trees and holler and holler. Someone told me that they warn the birds when hawks are around. I don't know if that is true or not.
ReplyDeleteBetsy
The crows move into town during the winter, we never see them in the summer.
ReplyDeleteGreat camera critters shots. I don't get a chance to play the memes as much as I once did. I hope I can get back to it soon, I miss it!
ReplyDeleteCrows have always been scary to me, but your sure got some great shots of him!
ReplyDeleteBTW, your header photos is AWESOME! I love it
ReplyDeleteI meant to say your header photo is AWESOME, not photos w/ an 's' - I'm very tired right now & can't type for nothing
ReplyDeleteI've always been sort of scared but intrigued by these birds, but find myself feeling sorry for the tiny birds getting pushed over when they fly in trying to get food bits.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, and like your blog title picture too :)
I love these guys too.
ReplyDeleteThey are so intelligent.
My dogs screwed with them once (we have lots of them on the field nearby).
Fot 3 weeks after, when the crows saw the dogs, they playfully attacked them, just to pay them back for their 'attack'
;)
Never get on the wrong side of a crow ;)
The crow is a large black bird, never see them around here. Only their larger cousin Raven. You did a great job of capturing that black bird Tom.
ReplyDeletemajestic crow!
ReplyDeleteYou captured all the texture of the bird. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd how about that banner photo?! Wow!
Crows are so smart, too. I love watching them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures of the crow, Tom. I also love that b&w header shot of my favorite animal and today's flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese are great pictures of the crows. I also think of Poe when I see these majestic birds.
ReplyDeleteThese are not my favorite birds Tom but you have taken great pictures of them.
ReplyDeleteI like the size of ravens, but crows are easier to look at. Yes, I'm calling ravens ugly.
ReplyDeleteThe Crow is one of my favorite birds-I don't know why-but I love them! Great pics.
ReplyDeleteI also love the crow. I think they should be a species all their own!
