My World Tuesday Season # 2 Episode # 15

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren,  Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive.

I was down at Fish Creek and saw this female Mallard Duck with the strange coloring. I decided to take another look. We have had quite a bit of melting since the last set.

Here is a pair of females to show the normal feather coloration.

She is a real beauty.

You can see a lot of neat worlds above.

  2. I haven't seen one with that light colouring before and we have plenty these parts. I have missed virtual travelling the world through blogging. Never know what you will find.

  4. A mallard swaggers into a bar and asks for a beer. The bartender asks, "Do you have cash?" So the duck says, "Just put it on my bill."

(lol) Oh, that one always makes me quack up!

  16. Yes she is a beauty!
I'm wondering if she would be an outcast in the duck world or one that all the boys wanted to be seen with.
Looks like she's made friends despite her difference.

  17. Isn't she a pretty little thing? I love ducks, too. I didn't realize how beautiful and distinct they all were until I got into birding a little deeper and braved the cold Maine winter. Before I acquired a scope, they all just looked like ducks, all the same, just ducks! Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise! ~karen

  20. I imagine that the ducks appreciate the melting. The coloration on the one female is unique, but beautiful.

  30. Dear friend,
Thanks for this informative post, I didn't know how to recognise duck's female. So that...that friend with fashion green hair is a "boy"? Hmmm very interesting!

  31. It looks like the boys like her too.

There is a name for the condition for the lack of pigment but I can't seem to locate it at the moment.

  32. We have a couple of those light colored ones at the wetlands and I always thought they were some sort of manky mixture because they hang out with the black and white ducks. Yours look just like the ones that we have! Love the Mallards and congrats on getting the shield back with your header...it's a good one!

  33. Your Blond Mallard is probably leucistic FG. This condition happens in lots of birds, some have more than others.
