This is the Kent State University Airport located in Stow, Ohio. This town abuts Kent to the West. It,s name, Andrew Paton Field, after the first aeronautical professor at Kent State. The hangar houses the squadron of Cessna's used in training. Thanks to Tom Arbor and Joe Todd for the info.
I was out a few days ago and got one landing.
This was today as they taxied to take-off.
It is in position to go down the runway. There is only one runway. You takeoff and land going North or South.
Most of the planes have blue markings but this one is gold, Kent state's colors.

ReplyDeleteNice Tom, I've seen these exact planes a million times before as we lived only a few hundred feet west of the south approach to the KSU airport, so thanks for bringing back another memory for me. I'm not a plane expert, but I believe these planes are Cessna 152's.

Great post I haven't piloted a plane in about 15 years but I trained in Cessna 152s I'm pretty sure that is what those planes are maybe 172s. At any rate there isn't anything quite like being up in a small plane. I've thought about getting"current" with my license just so I could fly over the Hocking Hills,or to far away Golf courses LOL. Only problem with north south runway is if the wind is out of the east or west

ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the planes Thomas..... we live under the flight path for Manchester Airport... we have jets coming and going all day and into the night yet we hardly notice them now. We even used to have Concord come over when it was flying... now that was a plane to take notice of.... we are around 5 miles from the airport but could here it land.
ReplyDeleteI used to go to Medows Field in Bakersfield. My grandpa and I would sit in the car and watch the "Guppies" take off and land. Good times...

ReplyDeleteFlying small aircraft is such fun. The Prof is getting to an age where it is safer to have a second possible pilot so two of our grandchildren are getting their licences as well, thus we will be able to keep flying to remote places in the inland.

I love the shots!!! We were driving yesterday, and saw a plane - then it totally disappeared. We were mystified. The lakes aren't open and there isn't a landing strip nearby. Oh dear. I wrote a rant about changes to towns. Crazy times.

ReplyDeleteThe Cessna's are great little training planes, we have a small airfield in Blenheim that has a training school for flying and gliding.

I had a flight in a cessna when I was a child and enjoyed the trip.
Love it. I like going to airports and taking photographs. Problem is, no airports! But someday I'll find one! Great shots.

Watching planes take off and land can be quite entertaining! I learned to fly (but never went so far to get my license) at a small airport like this...many, many years ago.
