This was a Ring Billed Gull in the fog the day we left Lido, Italy for the Venice Canal.
A Wood Pigeon (I had thought it was a Turtle Dove) in a tree along the highway on the way to Rothenburg, Germany. This is a Common Tree Creeper doing what tree creepers do, climb trees. It was seen in Fussen, Germany on the way to the castle.
This is a Chaffinch, a beautiful singer and a neat bird. This was found in Salzburg, Austria at Mirabell Gardens.
Thanks to Warren of Kent England for help with the last two bird ID's. He said the Chaffinch is quite common. He told me I had misnamed the Wood Pigeon so I corrected it.

Im pleased you have got to see some of the european bird life FG. and got to hear some of their song.
ReplyDeletePS the Turtle Dove is in fact a Wood pigeon :-)
Woodpigeons out number Turtle Doves by 1000 to 0ne, they are quite a rare bird, as some of our neandertal european nieghbors like to shoot them :-(
Tanks for the plug to my site mate!!
love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful collection of European bird, Tom.
ReplyDeleteAll very nice birds...loved the Turtle Dove~
ReplyDeleteKK
Great shots of the birds, the foggy gull is nice. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteVery different birds than here in North America. The wood pidgeon looks fairly large? Valerie
ReplyDeleteThat's really foggy! Quite different from the open skies in your crossing between Italy and Austria...
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
the bird pictures are very unique. they are beautiful against the blue sky.
ReplyDeleteNice variety of birds. I especially liked the gull in the fog.
ReplyDeletebeautiful critters!i really admire you can catch them very well, almost everyday birds are flying all over my place but can't get enough good picture since im just using a point and shoot camera.
ReplyDeleteWell done! Looks like a nice trip. New birds for me!
ReplyDeleteWow, FG. Not only did you take great photos of some of the beautiful European buildings but you also captured some lovely birds!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. Aren't you so glad that there are those who help with identification? I am stumped so often! Happy critters day from My Muskoka !
ReplyDeleteInteresting seeing European birds on an American blog. Glad to see you made it out fishing.
ReplyDeleteI had some good fishing today with the prize winner being a 14" crappie. Actually the biggest fish was a 24" catfish on 4lb line that pulled the boat around for a while but they don't excite me as much as the big slab crappies.
I hope you are having a great weekend.
Beautiful birds, Tom... Glad you had some great help identifying them... I'd need lots of help also... They are so different from ours --in some ways, and like them in other ways.
ReplyDeleteBetsy
Nice captures...and that first shot is really awesome. I really, really like it.
ReplyDeleteFabulous captures! I love the misty Venice shot.
ReplyDeleteI had always wanted to follow birds and take photos of them but it seems there are too few :( mostly pigeons are the ones flying around...
ReplyDeleteyou got many, thanks for showing!
Great photos and birds. I love the tree creeper and the Chaffinch.
ReplyDeleteLove all the birds from your trip-but the first pic is my favorite-just something about the foggy water.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Tom! I especially like the Chaffinch, because I have never seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteThe chaffinch is a pretty little bird. What a skinny beak on that creeper.
ReplyDeleteLovely birds from Europe. So calm and peaceful. Beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice day. :-)
Great shots. Love your pictures very much especially the third one. Lovely blue skies you have there.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, FG!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how many pictures you took during your shadowing vacation.
