Fishing was slow today for the first time in three weeks so I left early. I was coming off the lake when I spotted a Cormorant sitting on a buoy. I trolled out to see what photos I could get.
As I got closer it gave me a full wing spread. They like to dry their wings on the buoys.
Did you ever see a bird run on water? It did its running take-off which is always cool to capture. The lake is 80 foot deep at this buoy.
Lake Hodgson does give me neat photo opts. See what others have to offer.

oh wow, that is running on water you captured. great post.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tom! These are fantastic! I love him spreading his wings and then running across the water! Lovely reflections and colors, too! Hope you have a great week! Thanks as always for your kind comments, much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
What a great capture of that beautiful bird, like a ballet dancer almost. Gorgeous and colorful reflections.

These are stunning photos. My first thought when I saw the middle one was, Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThat IS a cool capture of the cormorant getting ready for flight!! It looks as though he is sitting on top of a big pumpkin. ~karen
ReplyDeleteAnother Gold my friend.
ReplyDeleteGreat series of cormorant photos. I just love that last shot of it running on the water. Great capture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a photo op! Like Jan, I thought "Hallowe'en" until I saw it enlarged.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't exactly graceful on land, but those great big webbed feet give cormorants an advantage when it comes to walking on water. A wonderful series of pictures. Thanks.

Some gorgeous photos, there! Amazing. Thanks. These birds always make me think of the 1993 movie by that name.
ReplyDeleteHi FG, I just photographed a group of Cormorants while visiting Martha's Vineyard. They stood in a row and spread their wings as though they were in a bird chorus line! I really like the reflections and the contrast of the orange buoy in the water.
ReplyDeleteI loved the spread wings, and the running on the water looks so cool!

Seen on My World Tuesday
Don't think I've seen one of those before. If I did I didn't know what it was. tee hee
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! You can definitely get close to nature from the water. The flying kind of nature anyway.
Bonjour Tom!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding sequence of action in these pictures, so well captured!
I love your world!

very clear and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOohh, love watching cormorants too. It's exciting watching this one "run" in the water. Very cool. Also love the contrast of the buoy against the water. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know pumpkins could float.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to get a good shot of the running on water bit. It reminds me of the little boy in the Pixar film, "The Incredibles."
Fantastic captures! I love the wings-spread wide and the cormorant running on the water--so cool!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful pictures, Tom. I'm glad you trolled over there to check out the Cormorant. Your picture of his running take-off is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCormorants are cool birds. Loons tend to take off in that goofy manner too. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteGee I didn't know birds could walk on water Great Shots :))
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures, especially that second one!
ReplyDeleteCannot believe you got the running on water part-wow!
ReplyDeleteThose are great pics! We occasionally get a few cormorants on our pond when it is stormy and they "blow in". We like to watch them dry their wings as they sit on the beaver logs.
ReplyDeleteThose were the right moments to catch these shots -yay!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I like your unusually expensive header!
