Camera Critters #34

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

I have seen a lot of deer lately. This was in my back yard. Some of you know I live in the city and this is the third time I have seen deer in the back yard this year. My wife has seen them a couple of times beside these times. We do have a little wild area in our back yard.
This was a beautiful doe with a fine winter coat that stood out against the snow.
She gave me one neat pose then moved back into the woods.
It was two weeks back at dusk and I saw ten deer out in a cut hay field. Here are six of them. This was before the snows started.
There were three more to the right of the group and one single one. they were all does or fawns.
The night before Thanksgiving the grandchildren and we were coming back to our house from traditional pre-Thanksgiving dinner and sleep over. They all assist my wife with cooking. Golf boy even makes the pies and Princess is the her constant companion in the kitchen. I spotted deer beside the rode at the golf course driving range. Luckily I was able to pull into the golf course parking lot and aim my headlights on the four deer. I think you can make out three of them.
They were feeding on the grass through the snow.
A mile down the road I spotted a loan deer in the field. The wife and grand kids were able to see a good rack on the deer. I couldn't get my headlights onto this one and it was too dark to capture the silhouette. I hope you enjoyed my Fall/Winter deer captures.

  10. Hi FG: The picture of the doe is breath taking. There do seem to be a lot of deer this year. I understand a lot have been spotted on the Garden State Parkway. Be careful driving. You never know when one may be running across the road. Lisa

  17. A good series on the deer. I am glad that you are getting to see and photograph them. Life would certainly be less interesting without them around.

  18. Thanks for sharing those deer photos.
I still get all school girl giddy when I see deer from the road.
I'm always in a position that I can't stop and snap pictures though. *sniff*sniff*

  23. Great pictures. We don't live in the city and we see deer behind our house fairly often. Fortunately we don't have the snow you have!

  24. Oh---FG, I love both the snow and the deer. I've read that the deer EVERYWHERE are being rooted out of their natural habitats due to so much construction and clearing of the woods. Progress, you know!!!! Grrrrr... SO---I guess they are going into the cities to find food!!!! Beautiful pictures!!!

  27. Nice shot and they do look good and healthy. We live in town as well and we get them here, unfortunately we also find them out on the main road hit by cars too often, living on the main hwy.Always makes me sad. One morning there were 4 of them hit, i assume by a truck

  28. It's the most dangerous time of the year to drive. Snow and ice on roads ... and deer trying to cross them, and early onset of dark. Our deer down here are very small in comparison: key deer.

  29. seems like you are seeing a lot of deer like we have here in DE, except we keep getting near misses with our car! yikes. Great critter photos :)

  30. Wonderful sequence, I enjoyed it a lot! How beautiful the deers in the snow!

  31. They are very attractive as long as they are not caught in your headlights in the middle of the road.
No problem for me, I can't drive at night but my son lives in a very deer area so I can worry for him.

  32. How blessed you are to be so close to these gorgeous deer! As I look at the close ups I cannot imagine how one could shoot other than with the camera. Wonderful peaceful images..thank you!

  37. Deer everywhere. I have heard some city subdivisions are having real trouble with deer roaming the streets. East Tennessee has an over abundance of deer, the interstate between Knoxville and Chattanooga can be dangerous at times with them running out in front of the vehicles.

  38. How cool! I live in the city and it would be REALLY weird if I saw one here. LOL!

  39. Great shots of the deer, love the one where you picked them up in your headlights but they're all super photographs.

  40. Looks like you have deer night and day! Great shots!

  41. How wonderful! I live out in the country, but seldom get to see any deer. They come after dark when they do come.

  43. This post impressed me much. There is no way that I can see these beautiful and gracious animals around my back yard except in our modest ZOO. I am glad that I have seen this post and thanks for sharing.
