Camera Critters # 37

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

I have been getting some neat captures during the end of Fall. Winter is getting close so who know what we will see. I thought I'd share a family of deer in my back yard. This is a mother and two fawns that visit every so often. They are browsing on the grass and trees. Did Santa send them out to feed before the big trip.
The Cardinal in his bright red is a standout in the back.
I was not sure what this other blue colored bird is. Any ideas?
The one reason they are back there is I split a bunch of pumpkins from our porch display and the seeds are available.
There were a group of eight at times in the back yard. How many can you see? You can click to get a bigger photo.
The Red of the Christmas season is shown in these birds and I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

  1. You're right -- cardinals are a great symbol for Christmas. We haven't seen as many males (at least at one time) as you've shown.
I hope the deer gave Santa a good report about you and that you have a very Merry Christmas

  4. You're a lucky guy to have this variety of wildlife right in your own backyard! And to have snow for the holidays ... no sight of the holidays here. :(
Regardless, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
Oh - and the last photo has at least 3 cardinals, but I couldn't tell if there was a 4th!

  5. Tom- Great cardinal shots. It is amazing how much I miss these birds. I just haven't been able to attract very many to our yard. The red really does pop and make me think of X-mas.

  7. It is so nice that you have deer visit occasionally.

I think we both had the same idea for this CC post, combining deer & Christmas.

  19. To me I always look at the red cardinals to Christmas. So that's really appropriate! They must love those pumpkin seeds! It's so cold here and the snow is so deep and as I see the deer walking along the roads and in the deeper snow, imagine the snow up to the bellies in some areas... what a sight!
Then in the morning when I go to work, they are all huddled in large groups to keep warm as I walk past them.
You have a wonderful post, beautiful photos as usual!
    Take care!

  20. We have the British Robin but Cardinals are just gorgeous and alas another bird I won't see here. The blue is about the size of a chaffinch or a bunting, but the colours aren't quite right. Love t know if anyone can name it. Marvellous images including Rudolph.

  21. Cool shots. The Cardinals I don't see in the west here, but the darker bird, the Dark-eyed Junco, I see often. We call them Snow Birds around here as they show up when the snows in the mountains start falling.

  32. Hi FG! Cardinals are special any time of year, but even more so this time of year. I saw four male Cardinals in your picture.

Looks a bit big, so I am unsure, but I think the unknown bird is a Junco. Lisa
