Some people are surprised when I show the Black Squirrels in my area. The Black and Grey Squirrels are the most prevalent squirrels we have. They have eliminated the Fox Squirrel from the city and you only see them in wood forest areas. This group of squirrels which were being feed by a kind person had three more Black Squirrels before they climbed the tree. Even the Boat tailed Grackle got in on this action.
This is a Black Squirrel on the sidewalk that was digging up something it had buried this past year. I got pretty close before it ran.
This Grey Squirrel at the base of a Pine Tree thought that something itched and was ready to scratch.
If they stay really stoic you can't see them in their mind. If they think you do see them off they go.
They sometimes have to check on you from the other side of the tree. He says "Surely you can't see me".
The squirrels of Kent, Ohio are so much fun. We even have a Black Squirrel festival each year in their honor.

The black ones really are cute... I have lots of gray ones up here---if you want some more. I also have OODLES of Chipmunks if you want some of them also!!!! ha ha

There were black squirrels in WI and I must say they sorta creeped me out. We have non-albino white squirrels here and they are always something of a shock when you see them. Cute photographs even though I am not a squirrel fan.

ReplyDeleteThese are cute. Interesting to know that they have run off the Fox Squirrels. I live in a rural area and only have Fox Squirrels. I assumed they had run off the grey squirrels. I hope your black squirrels spread westward towards Indiana :-) Wonder what would happen if they bred with the white squirrels in Olney, IL? Polked Dot squirrels? LOL!
