Sky Watch # 49

Sky Watch Friday is doing really well. Please check out the site and link in if you wish to participate. There were Mr. Linky problems last week but there were a lot of people with beautiful Sky photos. You can link in from my side bar or at the start of this post.

I do love to be on my boat on Lake Hodgson. This was a few weeks ago but we don't always get these Bluebird Skies.
Today was a good example, the day started with a misty rain and the just solid cloud cover. It had rained all day yesterday. I was lucky enough to have a Green Heron land in a tree on the shore in front of me. These little herons are hard to see in a tree with leaves but this is easier in the dead tree. Don't ask me why it is a Green Heron.
I did catch one nice 18" Large Mouth Bass while trolling a black and gold Hot-N-Tot. I was using my Shakespeare Ugly Stick to bring it in. He was a good fighter and he went back into the lake. You can see some sky reflection in the water.
There are a lot of great skies out there to visit.

  3. Great post FG. love your photographs.
Glad you put the fish back. Your reward must have been the bird coming so close.

  10. Hi Tom, One never knows about the weather, do we??? One minute the sky is blue and the next minute the storm clouds roll in!!!!!

We thought we were going to get a 'whopper' of a storm today--and we got NOTHING. It went all around us... SO--who knows!!!

Looks like a good catch though...

  14. Oh oh oh! That first one is just perfect! So simple and so... less is more. Definitely. Great shot.

And the others, but I like that first one best. (Maybe the green heron is albino? Ha!)

  15. I really like the last photo. It almost looks like grey water and the fish is color.

  28. I love the reflections in that first photo. I'm rather a sucker for reflections !! :-)

The heron looks as though it has green on it's head, perhaps that's why someone decide to call it Green Heron. It's a cute little bird. perched up there in the tree..

    Great shots !!!

It must be really thrilling to take photographs from one's boat in the middle of the water!

  31. It seems like the weather is unpredictable everywhere right now, here too. One minute it is hot the next cold, then sunshine, then rain. So many people are getting sick because of it. Love the first pic Tom. That sure looks like a great fish. Why did you throw him back?

  32. Sky and fishing go hand in hand for a fisherman has to watch the sky and its mood and temper before he can fish. :)

  34. Your first photo is wonderful with that reflection of the clear blue sky and the trees. The second one isn't bad either, there's a lot of action going on in that grey sky.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  38. Very beautiful photo for SWF. Make me feel so close to nature.

  39. The weather is very unpredictable but if you want to make an educated guess on rain. But we must remain positive. No matter what--- rain, heat, high humidity---it all beats snow in January and February. Hope you get to fish with your grandkids this weekend.

  40. I enjoyed your lake post. Even in the dark and misty photo, there is such beauty in a body of water. I myself love living so close to water: a large river, a pond and a small lake.

    Thank you for sharing.

  41. Great pictures. I am not much of a fisherman but it does seem like cloudy days are better than clear days for me. Nice fish that you brought in. Great that you put it back.

  42. I got behind again and missed so much. Love the heron and the squirrel. It is too hot here for even the squirrels.... :)

  43. I really enjoyed the shots. I wish we'd get a little more rain. Mostly we get those blue skies like in the first shot. Nice but boring after a while.

  44. Love the 2 different skies-and congrats on the bass : )

  45. Love the skies in that 2nd shot, the way the clouds appear to be sitting on the tree horizon line.

Great shot of the heron -- green, huh? Maybe I'll have to look that up on Wikipedia and find out why they call it that. :)

Hope you're having a wonderful Ohio weekend!
