Wednesday Potpourri - Black Squirrels

I thought I would share my Black Squirrels from Kent today. They have free reign over the neighborhood an love my feeder. This guy thought this was a good way to get at the food quickly. "Let's see, if I make it lean more food comes out.". "I feel someone watching me." Hey squirrel, you have a little food around your mouth.
"This is fun, if I jump from the pole on top I get a nice view of the neighborhood."

"The roof of the shed is a nice place to rest after I get a full belly. What is that dove doing up here?" - I built this shed 10 years ago and the roof is holding up well.
The Black Squirrels do normal squirrel things when not near my feeders.
I do hope you enjoyed a look at the areas Black Squirrels. There is a festival coming in September for them.

  1. I wonder what type of personality do these have...are they similiar to the fox squirrel or more like the gray squirrel? To me, they look like they would be more timid than the fox squirrels but maybe not as shy as the gray.

  3. Tom,

Very cool. I have never seen a black squirrel until you started posting them. I will have to google this to be sure you haven't let the spray paint get away from you. LOL

  7. Hey, we have that same bird feeder. Those ninja squirrels are going to tear it up, Man. We decided not to throw it away, but turn it into a very entertaining squirrel feeder right outside the kitchen window.

  9. These squirrels really know their way around bird feeders :)

I understand that the black squirels are a color phase of eastern grays and I noticed the tail of one of your squirrels has some gray showing.

    Nice shots Tom!

  20. Squirrels are far too clever, and far too bold, if you ask me! But so much fun to watch. We live near a woodland where red squirrels still survive, but I've never seen one; they're being pushed out by grey squirrels. Black squirrels I've never seen, so I loved this post and your photos!

  21. Strange to see a black squirel FG. I had a couple of albino's in my area a few years back, hopefully I will see, and photograph one again.
