Header Competition # 17 - Rooster/Cockerel

The header theme this week by Mac from England and is "Rooster/Cockerel". Mac,TomDarla and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We have a new candidates for the contest in Martha at Menagerie from Florida and Gail's man from England.

Today's subject was really hard for me, I have no chicken photos much less a rooster. Wait, I shot some male wild turkeys a while ago. Oh no, the male is called a gobbler.
I take a lot of duck photos and here are a couple of males. Oh no, they are called a drake.
Now what do I do. I know, I used to hunt Ring-neck Pheasant. Maybe I can go to the end of a corn field and remember the call of "Rooster" as the male pheasant took flight. This at least fit the requirements.

I finally decided on something completely different. In The late 80's I went to Costa Rica and fished for Rooster Fish. I caught 8 that one day with this header photo being the El-grande of the bunch. They are a good fighting fish. My header is the Fishing Guy with a big Roosterfish. I hope everyone is surprised. It got its name from the dorsal fins on the fish which has seven fins in a rooster like comb. I worked really hard on this one.

  12. Wow, Tom, I've never seen/heard of a rooster fish. I asked hubby (an old South African deepsea game fisherman)and he said he's heard of them but was thrilled to see yours in the header. Brilliant header. Thanks for the excellent Skywatch meme.

  16. Yikes, that's a big fish! Be careful trying to catch them, lest such a creature catch YOU instead!

  20. Are you allowed to shoot the wild turkeys? They look like domesticated ones to me, unlike the Australia wild turkeys.
