Header Competition Season 3 # 27temp

There is no theme this week, Mac is off to the lakes so our small group is taking a break. If anyone wants to join please contact Mac or myself.

I decide to show one of my favorite big birds the great blue heron. They work the shore for fish and I love to capture them as I'm also fishing. Here is one I captured along the shore and taking flight.
They are so beautiful.
He wasn't having a lot of luck.
We weren't either, I don't like cold fronts. We got a little to close.
He took flight, what a magnificent bird.
I do hope you enjoyed the show.

I knew exactly what I do most every day. Did you guess FISH? This is done Spring, Summer and Fall. So here are some photos of fish, fishing and the lake sights.

Here is one of our fellow fisherman, Erin the Great Blue Heron. He is guarding the lake and often chases other herons away.
Here is a nice Crappie caught by Tom the fishing Guy There were 10 more of the beauties.
Wally and a nice Yellow Perch, he has caught a big one on the last 5 trips to the lake. It's getting to be an every day experience.
This is a shore fisherman we see most every day.
So above is my header with an expanded look at the lake in the morning mist. I love to be on the water.

See what the others have to show above.

Camera Critters # 102 - Great Blue Heron

The Great Blue Herons are back in Ohio at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and building their nests.
Sometimes they land way up high and look for a good spot to build.
They are very picky as to the placement of every branch.

Some have paired off and are building the nest as a couple.

While others are just starting.
They are beautiful bird.

You can see a lot of other neat critters above.

Camera Critters # 85 - Great Blue Heron

On a visit to Plum Creek Park I saw movement of a Great Blue Heron heading for the North shore. He was in as deep as I have ever seen a heron fish.
His movement then switched to the South shore. It did become a little shallower.
Finally it was able to walk comfortably as its strides moved the water.
It was very careful to pay attention but found no fish.
It stopped its movement right before the line in the water but still no fish.
I then decided to leave him as he moved away to the South shore to fish. Click on the photo if you can't see him. This was the distance I was shooting him.
There are a lot of neat critters on the above site.

Camera Critters # 60

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

My favorite big bird is the Great Blue Heron, it is one of the largest bird in my area. I was driving by Munroe Falls, Ohio at the Cuyahoga River when I saw a heron in the water. This is where the dam formally existed. I stopped at the park and took some photos of the big bird. My friend Tom from Columbus grew up in this town. He always has a neat look at the nature from Ohio.
The heron went to the far shore when some trail walkers went to the lookout and scared him across the river. Lucky for me he did not leave the area.
He walked with purpose along the far shoreline.
He found a place to fish and watched the water.
He ended up on this log and was waiting for a fish to come by for him to catch. I enjoyed the show of this bird in action. Check out the feet on this big boy.
Go to the site above to see a lot of great critters.

Wednesday Potpourri

For my Wednesday Potpourri I thought I show you some results of a fun photo day for me. You can click on any photo to get in closer.

I went out for my daily morning walk and saw this Black Squirrel completely hidden from me. Wait, I think I can see him, after all I was right under his tree. His black color isn't much help when hiding. I was so surprised when I returned to see a deer in the back yard behind my garden at 10 in the morning. I take my camera with me for these opportunities. I snapped quite a few shots but this was the first. Did you spot him right away? Our weather has made a strong change and you can see blossoms on the tree in the woods and my Hostas next to the house sending out spikes. The weather had started to cloud up but I wad wanted to go back to see the progress at the heron rookery. There was still a lot of building activity going on. This is one of three full trees.
I started home when it began to rain and as I came around a bend found a dead opossum with two Turkey Vultures. The birds were on the road doing their job. They are a big brave birds and one didn't leave until a car came from the other direction. Luckily the road was lightly traveled in the park. I approached slowly and then turned and came back to get some more photos.
This is only a splash into coming post but it was a fun photo opt day.

Camera Critter #55

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

Photos from Brady Lake of the Great Blue Heron. This is the same place I shot the ducks on the lake in the previous. I saw this guy one day last week but received no co-operation.
Well mister heron what is the idea of sticking out your tongue at me?
Okay okay, I get it, I'm disturbing you and you are moving. Could you give me more warning. I'm zoomed in you see.
So across the lake he goes.
Onto the other shore he flew and now into mixed company. Do you notice the male mallard? You can see a lot of other neat critters by visiting the site and linking in.

My World #26 - Half a Year Old.

This is my posting for the My World Meme . It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were over 120 people showing their worlds to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. We have reached the 6 month anniversary this week, thanks Klaus for all you do for this Meme. Here is part of 'My World'.

I made a post earlier on the Great Blue Heron rookery in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park but left out one part. As I was taking photos two deer broke cover and ran below the rookery. This is a beautiful park even with the lack of greenery at this time of year.
I would say it was a mother and a first year youngster.
The heron had little choice as they broke through the area. I had not even seen these heron because they were on the opposite side of where I was shooting. Check out the heron right in their path.
He did get out of the way as they got closer and in a minute everything was calmed down.
There are a lot of great world post to visit, join in to have some fun.

Camera Critters #53

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating. This week is a post from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park heron rookery. It is easy to find this place and a lot of cameras were clicking away. I met some nice people while there. I was standing by the guard rail next to a road. Great parking for the view.

This is a view of the rookery from that you get. There are quite a few Great Blue Herons working on their nest. We did get snow the next week after I visited. This was a great sky day with the blue sky and white clouds. You can click on any photo for a better view. Here is one flying in with a little stick to add to the nest.
I think this is the experienced males resting after a busy morning. The boss heron on the left is trying to encourage the tired workers. The Canada Goose seems interested in what is being said. This couple is discussing the lack of branches in the nest. The wife just told the hubby what size to bring up next. This guy has a big stick and is wondering if he can get it airborne. Can you see him saying, "I think I can, I think I can". This is a fun place to capture a lot of great photos of Great Blue Herons in action. I'm definitely going back.

Camera Critters #28

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

If the fish aren't biting sometimes I go on a camera quest. The nice thing about being in a boat is you are not tied down to one spot. I saw a grey/blue object near shore with a fisherman about 20 foot away. My eyes said Great Blue Heron and my mind said weeds. As I got closer I knew it wasn't weeds. I guess I got too close.
He flew away around a tree covered spine to a back bay because I had approached.
I slowly trolled into the back bay as the bird worked the shore.
He continued to work the shore as I moved with it happily snapping away.
I saw it get ready to strike but nothing happened.
It reached an area and since it had no food to eat and turned to shore.
It got out of the water and walked up on the bank
It headed into the Pine covered spine that separates the bay and the main lake. If you look closely you can see the main lake on the other side.
I went around the spine and found him on the main lake walking back to the bay.
He waded in fairly deep and I decided to let him continue his fishing and I headed home with a camera full of photos.
Thank you mister heron for the close-up meeting. I do hope you enjoyed the amazing encounter with the Great Blue Heron.
