KSU honors past athletes.

There was a halftime program at the basketball game where the athletes from the NFL 2008 Pro Bowl were honored. There were three former KSU athletes who were honored. They gave out a poster that was a little too large to show. It said "Excellence in Action" Congratulation! All thre were undrafted free agents and are doing really well in the NFL.

Here is a picture on the overhead projector from the Pro Bowl Game. Joshua Cribbs plays for the Cleveland Browns. Cribbs was the KSU quarterback and is now a return specialist for Cleveland
James Harrison Jr. plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Harrison was and is a defensive end. He is shown here with the KSU Atheletic director and Flash the mascot.
Antonio Gates plays for the San Diego Chargers. Gates was a Basketball Star at KSU and is now a wide receiver for San Diego. Gates did not attend the halftime program.

It's still cold today!

I was up at 5:30 AM today and it was 7 degrees F. The went out and ran for the door as soon as he was done doing his business. We are going to rise into the 20's today. The moon was full and looked great this morning. The clear skies and the sun are a real tricksters on days like this. It looks a lot warmer then it is. It going to warm up some tomorrow. I'm shivering even in the office this morning. It feels bitter with not much wind.

That game last night was wild between Green Bay and New York. Did you see the girls in the cheese bikinis? They had to have a lot of alcohol in them to do that. I wonder if they got under cover between the plays? Just look at their faces, they are cold for sure.
Talk about 5 minutes of fame, they only got 15 seconds of fame.

Random Toughts for 2008

I was going to put down some random thoughts:

1: the weather has been strange this year. We've had two blizzards move in on the weekends. Today it was 56 F this morning and headed into the 60's F. This is a strange start to the winter.

2: The weather plays havoc with my sinuses. I like a steady temperature rather then this bouncing up and down through the temperature reading. We have had two large snows this winter and everything is melted with no signs of winter. It seems that we are going to not stay study during the winter. The next thing that happens is the spring flowers will think they should sprout.

3: The Steeler's lost their play-off game on Saturday. They looked bad during the game but came back after the half to take the lead. It's probably good they lost so I didn't have to suffer through another game. There was no consistency this year. They didn't look like they were the team they were two years ago.

4: Ohio State takes on LSU tonight. It could be a late game. That makes it really hard to stay up until the end. Sometimes when I try I just fall asleep and wake up in the night and check ESPN to get the score. I hope there is a good game tonight.

5: We have had ice on the lakes around here because of the cold spell. That should change quickly with the heat wave.

6: I need to get on with my Fish Ohio writing. The next is a special year to tell stories about. I need to do it this week for sure. It gives me satisfaction to look back over the years. I really enjoy Lake Hodgson.

7: I hope you are enjoying the CD reviews. I certainly enjoy doing them.

What's wrong with the Steelers II

The Steelers really got themselves in a tight spot yesterday. They were playing a tough team under hard conditions but losing at home could put them in trouble. The Browns won and are now tied with the Steelers. If the Steelers lose one more time they might not even be the division winner. Who could believe the Browns could win the division!!!!!!

I'm not looking for them to go to far in the playoff. I think they can win at least once so they will be in the playoffs. They are playing some bad teams but they have tended to do poorly against bad teams.

I know that Roethlisberger is hurting but they are playing badly. They better get there act together. Let's see what they do next week.

Steeler's field needed help.

It's really bad when a field comes into play during a game. The field at Heinz Field was awful. No one could do what they wanted to do under those conditions. I heard they laid a new layer of sod over the original sod. I wonder who came up with that brilliant idea. Didn't someone realize that a loose field wouldn't work. It's just lucky they were playing Miami who hasn't done anything this year. It was an awful night with lightning delaying the game start. It rained hard all through the game.

The Steeler's played on the Miami end of the field all night. They even had a great passing performance from Roethlisberger. The problem was it was impossible to kick on the field. It didn't matter whether it was a field goal or punt it just didn't work. No one could run on the field. Joey Porter still gained 81 yards to go over 1,00 yards for the year.

The Steeler's made a field goal with 17 seconds left in the game to win 3-0. The Steeler's now have to play the Bengals. They need to play a good game because the Patriots are on the schedule.

What's wrong with the Steelers?

How can the Steelers play great one week and then get beat 19-16 in overtime to the Jets. I don't understand the team this year. there is no consistency with there play. The defence should never have let the Jets into the game.

This type of loss leaves me confused. Thomas Jones runs for 117 yards. Roethlisberger gets sacked 7 times. I didn't get to watch the game in Ohio and maybe that's a good thing.

Cleveland let Baltimore come back from a 13 point deficit to be behind by three with time runs out. Cleveland gets in position for a tying field goal. The ball bounces off the side post, hits the back support post and bonces back through the goal post onto the field. The referees call it no good. The call was reversed after the play was reviewed by the head judge. Where were the two referees looking? They should have been able to see what happened. It looked like they were looking down the field instead of watching the ball. Cleveland went on to win with a field goal 30-27 in overtime. The Central division of the NFL is crazy this year.

Pittsburgh 31 Cleveland 28

I guess my "slim and none" didn't really come true.

It was a tough game for the Steelers. The Steelers had to come surging back to win the game after falling behind by 15 points. There were two returns by Cleveland's Josh Cribs that gave the Browns 14 points. Josh Cribbs is a former quarterback at Kent State. He did a lot of scrambling as a quarterback and it looks like that practice has helped him at Cleveland. The Cleveland quarterback was held stagnant in the second half which gave Roethlisberger a chance to get his team back in the game.

I was worried as the game went on especially since Ohio State lost yesterday. I didn't want another mess today. I get to wear my Pittsburgh Jersey tomorrow to work.

Go Steelers!

Big game on Sunday

The Steelers really showed the Ravens' what they didn't want to know. Roethlisberger had a great game. Guess who is next. Here are two teams within 100 miles from each other and fans from both sides in between them.

The Cleveland Browns go to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. This is a big game in the area because the Browns won three games in a row. This is a first for quite a long time.

What are Cleveland chances, I'd have to say "Slim and None". I sit with my Steelers cup in a Cleveland dominated office. I will wear my Steelers shirt on Monday after the win. It's funny when Cleveland begs for something to cheer for. The Indians have done well this year and the Cavaliers are also really good.

Bad sports day

Last week I had a great Sunday with sports teams. This Sunday payback was a bear. I know you have to live with the good and bad, but why all at once.

Cleveland Indians fall to Boston after leading the series 3-1. They really came crashing down after a good start.

The Steelers go out to Denver losing in the final seconds. Roethlisberger throws 3 interceptions and fumbles to give the Broncos a lead. The Steelers come back to tie but lose in the end.

Jeff Gordon ends up third at the Nascar race. A positive, he is still leading in the points to the championship.

Ohio State squandered a big lead in the Michigan State game but held on to remain number one in the nation. The Buckeyes have Penn State in Happy Valley next week.

Big Sports Day

It was good to be a team I root for on Saturday. Everyone, I consider a team that I follow, wins.

1. The Indians come out of their hitting slump and beats the Red Soxs 13-6 in the 11TH. After being tied for two innings, they blast the Red Soxs out of the game. The series is tied 1-1 as we head back to Cleveland.

2. The Buckeyes beat Kent State Golden Flashes. Yes, I live in Kent, but I root for number 3 ranked Ohio State. The number 1 and 2 teams lose so the Buckeyes are the number 1 team in the BCS and South Florida is number 2.

3. Jeff Gordon wins at Charlotte and extends his points lead in the chase to 56 points. He is ahead with 5 races to go. He wins his second race in two weeks. Nascar has another 5 time winner at Charlotte. The team is doing great running 1-2 in the points.

4. The Steelers don't play today but I'm sure they would have won.
