Header Competition Season 3 # 21 - "Now You See It Now You Don't "

The theme this week by Kathy which  is "Now You See It Now You Don't". Mac, Gail's ManDave,Kathy and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT and voting begins after that.

Oh my, what a cool topic. I had to think about this one. I've talked about how the snow has come and gone this year so I skipped that one. I decided on my squirrel feeder and the ears of corn.
So, Now You See It,
Now You Don't.
So here is the reason. The Kent Black Squirrels.
And the Gray Squirrels.
I chose a Eastern Gray Squirrel for my header.
See what the others have shown at the above links.

Camera Critters # 113 - Mostly Squirrels

This was the animal convention at the feeders. How many critters do you see? Can you identify them all?
This is our Eastern Gray Squirrel on my deck.
This is a Fox Squirrel from another city.
What in the world is this squirrel, definitely a cross. Brown upper with a white belly. This is the first one I've seen in my yard.
Have fun visiting all the great critter around the world.

Camera Critters #96 - bird feeders

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

A bird feeder can be an important help when photographing birds. The Cardinal is a neat bird that comes to my feeder. The male has such great colors in the Winter. There is a bird flying out of focus behind this one.
The Grackles do also come and put on a show, they are a very noisy bird.
The Morning Dove and the Gray squirrel also feed.
The Whitetail Deer also enjoy a bite.
The Black Squirrel eats the corn and the bird seed.

I do hope you had fun with the critters at my bird feeders.

Camera Critters # 95 - Squirrels

Since I had a Eastern Gray Squirrel as my header, I thought I show some others who have visited during the year. This Black Squirrel wanted to eat. Maybe I should call it squirrels just like to eat
and eat
and eat.
They only take a break when they are full
or taking a rest between feedings.
I do hope you had fun with this critter and check out some others above.

Camera Critters # 78

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

My Black and Gray Squirrels have been very busy in this wet weather stripping my Ohio Buckeye Tree clean of the nuts. It only took them a week to do it. Here is one on a branch getting ready to open the buckeye. Did I tell you it was wet and dreary all week.
This one had gotten a nut and was going to bury it in the yard.
This is one in the tree that had stripped the shell and was now ready to have a treat in the tree.
The Ohio Buckeye is poisonous to humans but the squirrels love them. I saved a few for a picture later on my deck railing. I hope it works. I will show the gray Squirrels next week.
You can see a lot of neat critters above.

Camera Critters # 69

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

If I just hang on here I should get something to eat. Hey bunny, what are you doing?
Once you learn how to ride you never forget.
Yes, just hanging out on the roof.

I'm just waiting my turn.
If I drop anything you can eat it.
I think I'll empty this baby. I finished all the corn.
See a lot of neat critters above.

Wednesday Potpourri - Visiting the Bog

The winner of the drawing for a prize from What Is It XXV was Mary from Indiana. She has a neat site with a lot of birds, butterflies and dragonflies to help with identification. Congrats to all the others who got the answer correct.

I took a trip to the Kent Bog yesterday. There have been a Black Bear spotted in the area of the bog and I decided to take a walk. It was confirmed by the Kent Police Department when responding to a call. I did take some photos while at the bog. Here is a Ruby Meadow-hawk that sat along the walkway.
This is a female Common Whitetail on the walkway.
Red Spotted Purple Admiral Butterfly that was in the bog. They are so dark I thought it was black.
Here is a damselfly but I don't know the name.
This was the only truly black animal I saw. Yes, the famous Kent Black Squirrel has invaded the Kent Bog.
There were no Black Bear sightings. I saw and heard the black Crow and that is as close as I came to things which were black.

Friday Fun Photos - Misc.

I thought I would do something a little different for my post today. My youngest daughter seen and has heard me tell of the squirrels raiding the feeder so she bought me this t-shirt for Father's Day. I must say, I love it. The photo behind me is one of my favorite Great Blue Heron photos I have taken.
This is what happens when the Grey Squirrel goes to the feeder. He does try to be watchful as he raids the feeder.
This is my other feeder on the shed and the Black Squirrel is resting after getting a full belly.
Not to be overshadowed the chipmunk gets his fair share from the feeder.
He will kick what he doesn't want out and the other animals feed from the ground while he is at work.

I do hope you had fun.

Wednesday Potpourri - Black Squirrels

I thought I would share my Black Squirrels from Kent today. They have free reign over the neighborhood an love my feeder. This guy thought this was a good way to get at the food quickly. "Let's see, if I make it lean more food comes out.". "I feel someone watching me." Hey squirrel, you have a little food around your mouth.
"This is fun, if I jump from the pole on top I get a nice view of the neighborhood."

"The roof of the shed is a nice place to rest after I get a full belly. What is that dove doing up here?" - I built this shed 10 years ago and the roof is holding up well.
The Black Squirrels do normal squirrel things when not near my feeders.
I do hope you enjoyed a look at the areas Black Squirrels. There is a festival coming in September for them.

My World # 33

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were 100 people showing their world to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Here is part of 'My World'. Happy Memorial Day to all who remember the fallen soldiers.

There have been two days in a row for the feeders to be emptied. I am hesitant to call them bird feeders. The Black Squirrel has been getting up there and sharing with all below. There is a Grey Squirrel and a Mourning Dove below.
The Grey Squirrel seems to be enjoying the situation.
The Chipmunk thought this was a good idea so he also got into the feeder. He jumped down but must have climbed up.
I am still taking a morning walk and this morning I got a surprise in a back yard by the soccer field. It is not a statue. I watched it go back in the woods and run across the open soccer field.
You see other worlds from the above link.

Wednesday Potpourri - Chipmunks and Friends

The Chipmunks have become a lot braver since I added a bird feeder. They are very aggressive with the feed on the ground and are not afraid of anyone. They share the feeder with their bigger cousins the Grey Squirrel.
Here is a Mourning Dove sharing the food.
The aggressive Boat Tailed Grackle doesn't even phase him. I saw him chase one away.
His other cousin the Black Squirrel also feed in peace from what the birds and squirrels have knocked down.
The Chipmunks is very happy with the new Chipmunk feeder.
