Wednesday Potpourri

Tonight for my Wednesday Potpourri I'm going to Jan 1, 2009. Becky from Twisted Fencepost posted her first kiss with the Captain. This brought back memories of the first time I met my wife. We both went with separate friends to a record hop back in the 50's. I know I wasn't driving yet so it had to be 50 years ago. I told Becky I remembered my first dance with my wife. I was the brave guy out of our crew at dances so I saw this cute girl and asked her for a dance. She accepted and we had our first dance of many to follow. We danced to Dion and the Belmont's singing "Where Or When", I hope you hear it then listen to Josh Turner singing about my "Soul-mate". Somethings you never forget when you meet your soul-mate.

My pictures tonight go back to New Years Eve and the weather was a little rough. It was cold and snowy. Wait, it is still cold and snowy. I guess this weather came in with the New Year. This Global Warming is tough when we are to go to a low of -4F tomorrow night. Just think how cold it would be. We went to the Tangier's Cabaret for a buffet and band show.
We were dressed for the occasion and my wife's eyes after the operation were almost healed.

The Tangier's was decked out in Christmas regalia.

The buffet was loaded and you had to get enough to eat.

The band show was a jazz band called Charisma with some neat music. They had both a man and women lead singer so could do a lot of jazz tunes. The band leader on keyboard was once with The Commodores.

It was a fun time watching all the action and the different couples. New memories made and cherished.

More From the Cuyahoga

The trip to the Cuyahoga River was over slippery rocks and stairs so I got some of the views of the area and the river flow. This is an example of some of the rocks I had to traverse carefully.

The opposite side of the river gives you an idea of the snow cover.

I took a close-up of this area for the shear beauty of the shot. If you check you can see exactly where I shot.

I went up on the observation tower to shoot down the river past the dam.

This was the parting shot down the flagpole from the top of the steps as I left the area. I took several flag shots but liked this one best.

Friends of mine, Sam and Sherry Servedio from New Castle, PA, sent me information on their daughter's talent. Her name is Bryana and she wrote and performed a song called 'Hazel'. Bryana is in college in New York and is a talented girl. You can hear the song on YouTube at this location. Why don't you check it out and let me know what you think.

My World # 13

This is my posting for the My World meme . It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar,Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were 97 people showing their worlds to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Here is part of 'My World'.

I started a series of bridges in My World # 8. This is the second in the series, the Main Street Bridge. This was always the best way to get across from the two parts of Kent until an impressive overpass was built. A railroad crossing can stop the traffic flow. The stone bridge consists of three arches and a section to cross the lower railroad tracks. You can see the new Kent Dam in the foreground.
There is a pier in the water under the river arch.

This is looking through the one water arch I can reach.

The Cuyahoga River and the reason Kent has so many bridges. You can see the U-flow of the river starting in the North and flowing south through Kent before flowing West to Akron.

Norman Maclean wrote of rivers in 'A River Runs Through It'. This is to honor his writing. This is a large rock along one of the bridge arch bottoms.

As Maclean wrote 'Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.'

In this I can see the writing the water has made in stone to tell their story.

Today's Flower's #22

I'm usually pretty good at finding the flowers name but this exotic has me stumped. I'm sure someone can name it. It was the flower bed at the library. The photos were taken in the Fall with the flower at full bloom. It was at least four feet (1.3 meters) tall .

Titania was the first to name it a Canna sometimes called a Canna Lily although not a true Lily.
It has an unusual and colorful red bloom. I think I have it captured well enough for an ID.

Our area is in the middle of a snow storm. We had 8" overnight and 4" more is predicted. Not many critters are moving but I did see two Black Squirrels playing in a tree but only for a short time. Here are the Pine Trees in the rear of next door decorated in snow.
I am showing some shots of a Cardinal in the Ohio Buckeye Tree from this summer.

This male was in full color and put on a neat show.

This is one of the most colorful birds.

This was an American Goldfinch from the neighborhood. He was in complete shade so was hard to capture really well.

He was a beautifull bird so I'm showing him the best I can.

Sky Watch Fridays # 26

This week I'm going to show you the evening sky from last weeks red sunrise. This was the most unusual wispy clouds showing. They seemed to trail down from the thick cloud cover.
I drove a little way and thought the reflecting pond may put on a neat show.

I did a second shot with just the pond as the view.

I was enjoying these clouds so much that I stopped again down the road at the golf course and took some more shots. This one at the pine tree was my favorite. The wispy clouds surrounded the pine tree.
