I'm going to show one more bridge across the Cuyahoga River. This is the closest to my house and one I use quite often. It is a two lane arched bridge. This picture was taken shortly after a train derailment and the bridge was closed.
The city finally opened one lane after several weeks. this has caused much congestion in the area. There was a sewage line damaged and the crane is being used to assist repairs.
This is a view from the side showing the cement structure over the river and one of the train tracks.
You can see the damage to the cars from the derailment. The cars were carrying coal and it also had to be cleaned-up. You can click on the photos to get a better view.
The coal is under the snow in this shot.
The bridges of Kent are in trouble with two of the 5 main bridges being repaired.Visit other sites to see others worlds that can be discovered.

With two bridges closed for repairs it must be very difficult to get around. I can only imagine the congestion at rush hour! Interesting post, FG.

Hi Tom- Those cars are really crumpled! I remember when I was a little boy, there was a train derailment near Kenmore, and my grandparents had to evacuate for the night since there was a threat of noxious fumes in the area. It was fun to have them over, and I don't think anybody was hurt.
One of my great great uncles was an engineer on the old tracks that went from through Kent and eventually to Marion. (maybe the old Erie railroad?) My grandmother and grandfather would always tell stories about him coming through Kent. Good stuff.

Uggggh Tom, That looked like a horrible wreck.. Hope nobody was injured. AND--to have 2 of 5 bridges being repaired, I'm sure that makes alot of traffic problems in Kent. Sorry about that.

Some kids pushed a single rail car and it derailed in my cousins back yard. It left a bit hole. They called it the pond.
Looks sort of sloshy after the late January thaw, but it usually gets cold again for the first week of February. It's the freeze thaw cycle that has everyone second and third guessing until finally spring arrives ...
That's a lot of snow I see.....just looking at them make me feel cold.

We underwent a similar bridge repair in our tiny town last year. For 4 months half the town had to drive 45 mins around to get to town. We also had a similar crane in situ'. Interesting post FG.

Train derailments are scary with some of the stuff they carry across our country! Glad it was only coal. Cities always seem to close as many possible routes at the same time :-) I guess you just have to focus on the new improved bridges when they are open again...eventually.
It is a real handicap when the infrastructure starts breaking down. Usually a lot at the same time as the initial building was done in a big burst. Very nice shots.
