This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Click to visit other sites.
I made a trip to the J. Arthur Fen Nature Preserve. A Fen is similar to a bog but has a stream running through the area. The road to the fen isn't great and it is a little hard to find but worth the trip. WARNING - Wear protective clothing and spray with Deet. I picked up two ticks and had several attacks by mosquitoes.
You walk down a grass road, past a meadow and then come out into the fen and onto a boardwalk.
This Red Winged Blackbird was a little way out by the stream but I loved the display it made with its shoulder applets.
There were a lot of Dragonflies in the area and this male Common White Dragonfly showed his stuff..
As I went into a wooded part of the boardwalk a little Red Squirrel decided to visit. I think he is beautiful with great markings, I love the black belly stripe.
This was a neat place to visit and was only 10 minutes from Kent.

Looks like a great place to visit.
Great captures Tom from a super place.
Sorry to hear about the ticks. I've never had them, but I hear they're no fun at all.
I like the markings on that squirrel, too. It looks like a fun little character.
Oh, what marvelous captures, Tom! And what a great place for a visit -- in spite of the ticks!! Love the squirrel! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Sylvia
Except for the bugs, this looks like a delightful place to visit.great shots.

So many places to visit.. all beautiful nature .. wish i could go and survey this out one day.. :)
I love the fen. Maybe I need to put one on my wish list for a new house?! Ah, I do want a pond in My world !
Thanks for sharing your photos!!!
Very scenic place. The bird is beautiful.
The squirrel looks like he is waiting for the shotgun to go off so he can run the race! I love these photos. Beautiful place.
Don't you love nature preserves? Peaceful, quiet, and full of wildlife. Red squirrels are so, so cute!
I love wondering around in places like this. Just to see what I can see. Or capture on film.
What a wonderful place I bet that is...reminds me of the strip pits.
Looks like a great place to visit, Tom... Love seeing the Blackbird.. Beautiful bird!!! Glad you wore your Deet... The bugs and skeeters love George... He must be sweeter than I am... ha ha

Did the Redwing Blackbird sing for you. I love listening to them while wetting a line on a warm, silent evening. Tooo, to,to,to!
Nice that you invited us to stroll with you on the Fen. We have one at one of the local campgrounds that I haven't seen in years. I will be there in Aug. Thanks for all you share.

What a lovely place! That dragonfly picture is just stunning!
What a great place to take a walk so close to home but Mike would be eaten alive by the bugs. Bummer about the ticks. Love the squirrel.
what a beautiful and peaceful setting. thanks for sharing your world.
Hello Tom!
Thanks so much for giving us a taste about this wonderful park!
All pictures are just perfect but I think you know what is my favourite :) that sweet squirrel, as I do love squirrels!
*** next time don't forget some product spray to avoid mosquitoes! LOL
I'm always concerned about it, as I'm totally allergic!:)
hugs
Léia
Oh poor you!! These places are so wonderful to go for photography and then you are eaten alive.
I'm a bit paranoid about ticks, but I would brave them for this palce. It looks beautiful.
A lovely visit! Love the bird! So colourful - was he warning you off?
very beautiful photo's really like it!
Hi from across the pond.
You have some great pics here, I congratulate you.
Cheers:)
Alan
Amazing what can be found close to home sometimes
Looks like you had a great and successful walk... minus the ticks and mosquitos.
ticks? yikes!
I'm glad you remembered the Deet, FG. Ticks? EW!
In spite of the pets, love exploring bogs and fens. We have quite a few near where I live. You photographed a neat dragonfly!
The pic of the dragonfly is particularly attractive! Sounds like a great place to visit...when you're covered with something to ward off the pesky mosquitoes and ticks.
Awesome photo's Tom
This is a beautiful place!!
Thanks for sharing.
I never knew there was a difference between a fen and a bog. We call our beaver bog a bog but now I know its a fen. But nobody here will ever call it a fen! Your red squirrel is SO different from ours. Yours looks like a skinny gray squirrel with a tawny coat! LOL
Great photos as always.
Andree: What some people call Red Squirrel are actually Fox Squirrel. The fox Squirrel is the size of a Gray Squirrel.
Thanks for educating me about a fen and for the wonderful pictures. You definitely got some great captures -- love the squirrel.
looks like a dream...oh..I would like to visit...
congrats
nice day, dear

The squirrel looks cool, like he's getting ready for a race. The little black bird can be found out here too, used to see them on the rez around the pond, just outside Tuba City.
The pics you got-were worth the ticks and bug bites : )
I love the little red squirrel :-)
