Camera Critters # 101 - Cardinals

The Cardinal is a bird that winters over in Ohio. This female came to the feed on my deck rail.
Here is another one with more of the Winter color. They seem to explode in color during the Winter.  They are a beautiful bird.
There were some House Sparrows that visited with her. Can you see the male and the Gray Squirrel in the background.
It looks as if they were talking about this sharing of the food.
The sharing continues with a Mourning Dove getting some feed.
So as to not let the male out of the photos here is one in the snowy trees.

Go to the main site to see a lot of other great critters.

I have to steal your idea and put out some foods for the birds to come to my yard :-)

Beautiful photos!

Wonderful shots of all the birds. the Cardinals are pretty. I spread out food along my deck railing too. The birds eat it right away.

Absolutely stunning! I so love cardinals. We get only a few here this far south.

Thanks for the wonderful comment and visiting with me this morning

Scattering seed along the deck rail is a great way to draw the birds for photo opportunities.
I do this too and have a gazebo feeder attached to one of the posts and this is where I get my best shots.
Enjoyed viewing yours.

My husband put a feeder outside one of our bedroom windows. The birds haven't found the feeder yet :-(

I like each of your bird photographs. I especially like the one "talking about sharing food" and the male cardinal in the snowy tree.

I'm glad you included that male cardinal -- he's beautiful. It definitely looks as if your deck rail is a popular dining spot during the winter.

Tom, Your bird captures are a wonder. I never think to feed cracked corn...maybe that's why I do not see the cardinals tho I hear them. Dar will be getting cracked corn...thanks for sharing such wonderful pictures of your feathered friends.

I always wondered what they chatted about when they were gathered around the feeders. Now I know!
