Camera Critters # 99 - Wildlife Feeding

My daughter says these are the best feed Whit Tailed Deer she has ever seen at the end of Winter. If you feed the wildlife they will come to your camera. Proof can be seen below in my city backyard. This was one group of seven that came in to feed from the corn I put out. They also like the bird seed I use.  The deer are herded up into family groups and travel together.
A half hour later this group of 5 came in. There are two mothers and their three fawns. You can see it was headed for darkness and yes they do come in through the night.
I put out corn and bird seed this morning and 5 minutes after going into the house these two youngster came into the yard to feed. You can see the corn I spread onto the benches and on the ground. They are really doing well through the record snow this February.

Go to the main site to see a lot of other great critters.

Wildlife is no different than a man, the way to their heart is through their stomach :)

It's great to see that you have so much wildlife to enjoy right in your backyard.

Wonderful photos, Tom. That sight is very familiar to me as I see it every day, except in a backcountry setting. Seeing them is one of the most enjoyable experiences in life.

Tom,

Thank you for being such a good neighbor to your local wildlife! Amazing!

Tom, there is an old story about a blue deer, and wherever he walks, there grows the peyote cactus. His feetprints create the medicine.

Wonderful shots of your backyard deer. They do like your corn and birdseed. I would think all this snow makes it hard for them to find food.

I love seeing wildlife in your city backyard. I only occasionally see the mule deer here, but they sure do leave behind lots of prints.
If you build it they will come!

You must really go through the corn! I always think we could support another child with what we feed animals. Yet, I would still be wanting to feed the birds and squirrels.

They are certainly having a hard time in the woods this year. Putting out corn can get expensive; especially when a herd of twenty sometimes shows up as it is in my case. :)

Fishing Guy, you are a dear to put out food like that. Those deer are lucky to have you.
The fawns are so sweet!

And your header is fantastic.

I'm sure I'd be complaining if deer came into our yard and ate my plants. But, I just love looking at photos of them, such sweet animals. Thanks for sharing, and feeding them.

In my country there is proverb saying "A person who doesn't love animals can't love humans". You have a great heart, you feed these deers and fawns. They are very sweet and I am sure they know you are their friend and will behave friendly with you.

Looks like the deer can't keep a secret. They find a nice deer restaurant and can't help telling all their friends.

Coy is right, feed anything / anyone and they will come back for more.:) Now I wonder if there is someone out there willing to feed me? LOL!!

Fishing Guy, you are a very compassionate animal lover. I liked the comments posted here too. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm a blue deer. Must be something like a white buffalo in native American tradition.

Hi, I keep seeing your name on blogs so thought it was time I came over to take a look and I'm glad I did. I just can't imagine having deer in the garden and you live in a city? that is amazing! Such lovely creatures and it is great that you are helping them out in the bad weather, lovely photos too :)

Ah my arch nemesis from work. The deer around here look better than ever after winter. They should be in fine shape to ruin the garden this year

Fantastic! To have so many deer visit at one time, I would be over the moon and these are great photos.

Lucky you Fishy to see a such a large group of deer and what an idylic setting. Love the woody wood peckers btw

EG CameraGirl said...

They must be watching you put the food out. :) Your home must be close to a woods, I'm thinking.

You live in the city and you see deer almost daily.
I live in the country and never see them. I know they're there because I see their fresh trails. A couple of weeks ago one walked right between my house and camper. I saw the tracks. Within 5' of my house. Maybe I don't get up early enough to see them.
Love the pictures, FG!!

I think if I were to put out food, I might get... nothing. Just birds. If I want something else, I'd have to put out my cats to lure the coyotes. Your deer are beautiful!
