Great Blue Heron

Here are some photos of my favorite big bird. This on was at Brady Lake and I was close.
It flew to the other side of the lake and landed near a Mallard Duck.
This one was along the Cuyahoga River.
Here is one that was fishing at Hudson Springs Park.
These two were raising chicks at CVNP at the rookery.
I hope you enjoyed my big bird.

Back Yard Visitors 3

My final visitor to the back yard. I heard the screech call of a hawk . I looked into the pine trees and this is what I found. In the very to was a hawk.
I zoned in closer to see.
A little closer and it was a Red Shouldered Hawk. Can you see the red on the shoulder of the wing?
It did like to pose.
It was very comfortable at the top of the tree and put on a show.
I hope you enjoyed my visitors as much as I did.

Back Yard Visitors 2

I have had some interesting visitors to the back yard. My yard backs up to a wooded area that does have wildlife so even though I'm in the city of Kent I get a variety of critters into the yard.

I had the triplets show up last week. They are beautiful with their spots and fun to watch. They showed up alone for at least 15 minutes alone.
They are such a majestic animal.
Mom did finally come to graze.
This on gave me a pose to be remembered.
They went to the back to play a bit and were gone in a flash.
See tomorrow what else showed up.

Back Yard at Home 1

I have had some interesting visitors to the back yard. Something large landed on my garden shed. Let's see what it is.

It sure is big.
Why, it is a Turkey Vulture or Turkey Buzzard when they return to Hinckley, Ohio each year.

It did some posing, good for photos.

Then it flew away.
Come back tomorrow to see what else showed up..

"A Good Day On the Lake"

The lake was good to me on Monday. I had lost the fish for a bit but them yesterday. The Yellow Perch were working the bottom and I was able to pick up 27 keepers. I sent a minnow down to them and usually got a quick response. The action was pretty fast so it was a fun morning. I had forgot my knee braces so it made it a grueling morning. A storm moved through but didn't last long. Three of the Yellow Perch were 12" long a good catch anywhere.

The cooler is 13" across to show you the length. The cooler had the rest of the fish and a quart of fillets for the freezer.

"Night Scenes"

The deck at night can be a dark place. We have solar lighting to illuminate the area.

The lights are small but give a neat glow.
I have them going around the deck.
The blue lights are bug zappers.
I hope you enjoyed the show.

"Back to Basics"

The theme this week is "Back to Basics" by Christine.  Mac, Kathy, Lew, Christine and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT on Mondays and voting begins after that.  Lew is still missing in action.

My daughter Tracy took me to the Akron RubberDucks minor league baseball game for Father's Day. She also bought dinner and got us tickets to see Rascal Flatts when they come to the stadium in August. The game is getting back to basics with the younger players still learning. Akron won 3-2  with a walk-off triple to bring in the winning run. Dinner at Luigi's to  follow. What a great day.
We got there early enough to see them finish the field.
Since it is minor league there are some special critters on the field.
Ready to start the game against the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs. Akron General Hospital in the background.

I must say a hard word to spell silhouette, I found some things around the house in silhouette.
Here is a bird house in the house with a silhouette on it.
Why a fish in silhouette of course.
One of the neighborhood squirrels posed in silhouette.

Something Old"

The theme this week is "Something Old" by Me.  Mac, Kathy, Lew, Christine and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT on Mondays and voting begins after that.  Lew is still missing in action.

I guess I could have used my self portrait for this one. I instead chose to use my 1994 GMC pick-up. It belonged to my Dad and I got it when he passed about 10 years ago. It had 84,000 miles and now has 91,000 miles. I use it to tow my boat to the lake and miscellaneous gardening projects. I am hauling some mulch for around the house today.
The main change I made to the truck is a used set of tires and rims. I also added a fishing themed seat cover and steering wheel cover. Notice I cleaned the wheels for the photo shoot. lol

I was out picking up mulch from our city mulch pile. You can take trees and yard waste to the site and they convert it to mulch for the city resident usage. Free if you load it yourself.

You can see the dome behind the mulch pile that they use to convert the mulch..

Here are some memories of past years trip. Since I'm retired I get out during the week. 2013 was a good year. This was a Fish Ohio Crappie.

Why did I take shot?
Somethings on the window let's see what it is. Get your camera and take a photo.
Oh that's a bad idea. You have reflections galore.
I am in the photo and my camera. What is it?
Well if I go outside I see it is a Tree Frog looking for some bugs.

"Something Blue"

The theme this week is "Something Blue" by Christine.  Mac, Kathy, Lew, Christine and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT on Mondays and voting begins after that. Christine is gone and Lew is missing in action.

These are some tiny blue flowers by a friends house. They are about a 1/4" across and put on a pretty Spring show.
They are almost all blue.
There are a few white mixed in.
My daughter's blue liner gives blue hue to the pool. It will be ready to use real soon.
See what the others show on my sidebar.
