The Snow Is Leaving

This the first thaw since the snow started in December. I thought I would share our snow season from around town. This is a tree behind my neighbors yard that looks like a home for some squirrels.

The snow just kept coming and decorating my back yard along with the pine trees. This is taken during a snow storm. The deck got a really good covering during the month. I liked the way followed the table on railing.

Here is a neat view of the icecles on the side of a building.

What do you do with the snow on the bridge after you decide to open the lanes after repair. Why, place it in front of the resturant that has been closed. The melt had started and snow piles were showing the dirt.

Let It Snow

We are having a winter wonderland in Kent, Ohio. We almost had all the snow melted away and from a slow rain all day bur things are changing today. This is my mailbox and paper tubes after last weeks snow storm

The house was decorated for Winter.

The garage took on a special appeal.

Today the salt trucks were out spreading the streets because we are to freeze tonight.

I got pretty close as the truck slowed down for a School Bus. This is a mixture of snow and salt as they both come down onto the streets.

I thought this field gave the feel of the conditions we are under today.

Winter could be here to stay. I wonder what my daughter from Mexico will thinks when she arrives from the sunny South.

Snow, Snow, Go Away

I woke up this morning to 8" of snow on my car and truck. The driveway was well covered and I shoveled it off. It was still dark when I was ready to go to work but managed this shot of my house. I saw this Cardinal sitting out and enjoying the weather. It looks like a healthy bird.

I was able to capture the little bush in front of the house at noon.

The bench at work was well covered with snow.

The Canadian Geese seem to be bedded in for the night.

The Mallard Ducks and Canadian Geese seem to be enjoying a swim in the middle of a snow storm before bedding down.

We are supposed to get three more inches tonight with no end in sight. As I said to a friend today, it looks like we are heading for a White Thanksgiving. Wait a minute, that certainly doesn't sound right.

Snowy Day in NE Ohio

We received a gift 12" of snow today. This is a street in the neighborhood at noon. The snow is scheduled to continue until 2 AM tonight. I love the way the trees look but the snow is packing snow and really hard to move when you clean the driveway. Our road saw the first plow of the day at 6:30 PM.

Where is the road? --------- It's between the mailboxes. I took this picture of a pine in the neighborhood.

Here is my back yard with the snow cover. It just kept coming down all day.
The family of snowmen down the street. The kids got a day off school because of the roads and took full advantage to play outside. They must have two older and one younger child.

WVU wins bowl game - Weather has really turned

Congrats to the WVU football team for having a great bowl game last night. Every time that OU looked like they were coming back, WVU kicked it into a higher gear. I wonder why they didn't play this type of game against Pittsburgh. Oh what could have been. We would have seen WVU and OSU in the championship finale. Now we have to see if OSU can play as well against LSU on Monday night to determine the championship.

Here it is January and we do have some sun today. The temperature went down to 8 degrees last night and even with the sun out it has only gone to 10 degrees this morning. I like it to be a little warmer then this.

The snow has stopped and we didn't get much more after the blizzard moved out of the area. A lot of places got it a lot worse then we did.

2008 Comes In With A Winter Storm

The New Year opened up with another blizzard for the first day of 2008. We got 5" to 12" of snow in North East Ohio. The lake was producing snow with a lot of wind. I had to go out and shovel about 5" of snow off the driveway this morning. The snow was a packing type snow underneath with a fluffy snow on top.

I went out in the morning on New Years day and the wind was howling through the tree tops. There was no wind on ground level so it was a little surreal seeing the tops of the trees whipping around with no wind on your face. My dog had a real sense that something strange was happening. The snow came a little later and the wind was now blowing the snow sideways at ground level. It snowed all day and then throughout the night.

Our minor water shortage has been relieved with all the snow/rain we have had recently.

No blizzard remnants

The blizzard we had last week is gone. We had rain this morning and 50 degrees. We are now having high winds and the temperature is supposed to drop into the 20's with snow tonight. What crazy weather we are having.

Here is a picture of the house today after the rain storm. As you can see the 12" of snow from last week are now gone.

Blizzard conditions in NE Ohio

We had a blizzard yesterday. It was snowing and blowing really hard. We probably have 12” of snow as you can see on the roof of our house. It blew off our bedroom roof and is piled on the living room roof. It then blew onto the garage roof.
Here is a view of the porch. The big wreath was covered with real snow yesterday. Since reading Rick Lee's blog I now wonder how he would portray the icekles. I took a couple of shots.
The wind gave them a Easterly rake.

I shoveled the driveway last night and had to do it again this morning. It’s supposed to stop snowing today.

Did I say there were stairs to the deck. Well, there are no more.
The snow bank beside my truck was 3 foot high.
My wife and I tried to go out for supper and some of the restaurants were closed. We will have rain by Thursday/ Friday so it should all melt away.
