A Goodbye to Jake

Jake had to be put to sleep today. It is a sad passing of our family pet. Jake was a 15 years old Pomeranian. His kidneys started to fail in the past week. He was suffering very much when I took him to the vets. He helped me through my recovery from my heart problems. He was always ready to head out around the neighborhood until this last week.

Here is Jake last month standing up to one of the neighborhood bullies while we were on one of our morning walks. That was one mean cat. The pig was the referee. That pig did a poor job. That cat attacked before the bell rang. Jake had lost his left eye as a pup and could only see out the right side. He never let that slow him down.
He was always ready for a treat because he was a good boy.
Goodbye Jake, you were a proud dog. All the kids in the neighborhood wanted to pet the puppy.
In memory of Jake, he was a good dog: The Pirates of the Mississippi sing "Feed Jake".

The Dogs in Our Town.

We have a full size Pomeranian in our life. His name is Jake and he came by way of Colorado to Florida to Ohio. He is the best behaved dog and is easy to care for. He is 14 years old and still doing quite well. He is a good looker and everyone says what a cute puppy. I think he is 82 in dog years so he is no longer a puppy. I cropped his face from the above photo. He does like his treats and expects one each time he goes outside. Jake loves the wife and will sit with her whenever possible. He wants me for walks around the house and food. He has a lot of gray in his coat. This is my Granddaughter's dog Jelly Bean who is a miniature Pomeranian and a year old. She is a fluff ball and weighs nothing. She is a barker but very lovable once he knows you. We baby sit her whenever the family is out of town. The two dogs get along well. It is a good thing that front white streak isn't on top.
Christmas is in the air with Christmas Eve quickly approaching. This is such an exciting time for kids.

Backyard Capture

The Squirrels were playing on my Maple Tree in the back yard. I caught this Black Squirrel as he was coming down the tree. They are eating the seeds of the tree at this time. The Grey Squirrel jumped onto a log and was showing off.
He did some neat poses, this was a great pose but not that great of a picture.
I saw a flash of yellow in the yard and started taking pictures. I never saw this bird before. Visit Aunt B's Backyard to see some other great bird pictures.
It turns out that it was an American Goldfinch. Lin at Sandpipers also had a photo this week. She does a great job with nature photos. I don't know if new birds are coming into the yard or I am just more observant with the camera at hand.
Our state bird, the Cardinal, finally let me get a picture. These birds are very skittish and flit in and out of the yard.
He stayed for two photos and was gone.
A boat tailed Grackle was nice enough to pose for me. I love the iridescent blue head.
This is an add on, Jake my Pomeranian going to the groomers.
Here is is on the trip home a much happier dog to be done with the torture and looking pretty handsome.

Little Signs of Spring

All the snow is not gone yet. We received a lot of rain but some of the snow remains. The weather man says we will see sun today. It has been several weeks since it was in the area. This is a hyacin that thinks spring is coming. We have red, white and blue in the front of the house. The snow is just melting away and it is coming up.
This is a plant that has a rounded set of leaves and is sending out it's shoots. It can be transplanted with just one leave. This is a little white flower that comes up each spring since I salted the area with bulbs so have no idea of the name.
Jake our Pomeranian can actually see the ground in the back yard.

Jake Went to Groomer

Jake or Pomeranian was getting a little shaggy after going 9 weeks since his last grooming. He goes to The Wizard of Paws which is a great play on words.
Here he is all groomed with his scarf on after the groomers. He continues to get darker on his back. He is a good looking old fellow.

Jake -our Pomeranian 2

Jake our Pomeranian got a Christmas haircut. He is looking a lot darker with some big dark spots showing up on his back. He is an iside dog so I woundn't think the sun had him bleached. We did have him cut a little longer so that might be the reason. It was about 2 months since his last hair cut. You can see his last cut here in October .
I gave him a bone so he laid real still for the pictures.
He was really getting into that bone.

Jake -our Pomeranian

Jake has one bad eye from a run-in with a bigger dog when he was a pup.
He does pretty well with sight out of one eye. This is his cat pose. Watch out mr. chinchilla.
Jake is 13 years old. We've only had him a few years but have known him for 10 years. He went to the groomers yesterday. He really needed a haircut. Sometimes he doesn't look like the same dog when he comes home. The groomers always gice him a nice scarf. This time it is a halloween theme. They give him what I call a lion cut with a flair at his face.
