Story of the Giant Blue

The weather has been very bad for fishing but the Giant Blue Hostas thinks this is a great May. It has been responding to a cool start. It sits on the North side of the house in the shade. This weather has helped it grow. My first shot was 4/29 when it emerged from the ground as small shoots.
On 5/3 it's starting to unfurl its leaves.
If you check on 5/6 it is really starting to spread.

This was take on 5/15 on a cloudy wet day and the development is proceeding. It catches the water for a good drink.
I guess I was feeling a little artistic with the droplets on the leaves. Click on this one and notice the way the rain water is directed to the roots.
That brings us to today on 5/19 when the Giant Blue Hostas leaves are starting to spread out. It's not done showing its complete size but it's growing very well. The remainder of the Hostas are doing well also, this is on 5/6. There are a Pink and White Peonies at the end of the Hostas.
My front Hostas are coming alive. The Yellow and White Variegated Hostas is also growing. It also has large leaves and will continue to show off its size.

What pretty plants they are! I tried hostas once but they didn't do good at all.

Big Blue is going to be a handsome plant when fully grown. Right now he is a cute teenager. When they first start to unfurl these hostas look like rolled up scrolls. Truly amazing how they emerge from the ground and unfurl their leaves. Thanks for documenting the rebirth of Big Blue.

Like you have, my hostas are doing OK this year. I think the winter hurt them some as a couple are not going to make it back to big this year. Some have died.

This was a nice series of photos. It was interesting to watch the development. Some plants are like that. You can just stand there and watch them grow.

Those are beautiful plants. Conditions must be just about perfect. Don't forget to show us more later in the summer.

Oh, I love hostas and that was cool to watch them develop! Beautiful display you have there FG!! I have to use my own version of an animal deterrent to keep the deer from eating them!

Dot: If you keep them shaded under a tree you might be able to grow Hostas. They don't like full sun.

Michele: The Hostas are a self sustaining plant and flourish on their own. I don't feed them anything, they simply get their nutrition from the rain water. Did you notice the way the leaves retain the rain water. I have this one placed to catch drips of water from the roof.

My Hostas are coming up, too, now. My yard is mostly shady and I can always count on them to fill in when other plants fail!
