Camera Critters #44

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

I was driving a few blocks from home and had to turn around. The top of the telephone pole had a decoration. We actually have had blue skies for a few days. It was still only 20F.
It was one of the famous Black Squirrels of Kent, Ohio.
I got a few shots and it decided enough was enough.
I wanted to show you where the squirrels stay during the Winter. My house is a little ways down the street.
I zoomed in for a close look at the nest of twigs and leaves. It has made it through all of our winter storms.
See what other neat critters you can see at Misty's site.

Love the photo of the squirrel nest, FG. I guess they feel safer way up high but I would think it would also be windy and cold.

I'm glad you turned around to get these pictures. We don't have black squirrels down here, but the nests look the same up in the trees.

That nest is so cool!

When I lived in Ohio, the squirrels just lived in our walls during the winter! I used to love to hear them running up and down from the attic to the basement and back again!

That Black squirrel was sure up high! I really like these critters!

It still freaks me out to see a black squirrel - I'm just not used to seeing them! LoL!

I'd really like to see one of these guys too. Such contrast to the grey and red ones I see.
Love the second one of him 'pole sitting.'

That squirrel had better watch out among the wires and all.

Tom--That black squirrel probably thought he was KING of the world up there on that pole!!!! I've never seen a black squirrel. Ours are all of those old gray ones. BUT--we do have those big nests in top of the trees around here. Wonder how they make it through all of the storms and wind????

Have a great weekend.

Love the black squirrel, Since i have never seen one other then on these blogs i am wondering if they are as common as our gray squirrels and also wonder why we don't have them here.

That is a neat shot. Thanks for sharing it.

Great photos. I can believe there nest is still intact. All of ours were blown away or damaged so they have to rebuild. We only have red and gray here.
Have a great week.

We don't have black squirrels around here either. Neat shots you got.

How neat to see him on top of that pole. I dont think many people would have noticed. I always expect their nests to be inside trees like ours.

Fishing Guy, it's so difficult to photograph squirrels: they are so quick! You have a great eye indeed. This is a fantastic sequence.

Great photo with the squirrel on top of the pole. WE have those big nests in our trees too.

I just love that little black squirrel!!
You captured him perfectly up there... you had a good eye to see up there... I think I would've missed him!
Wonderful post.
I hope you are doing well these days and your face is healing.

Good eye fishing guy! As bloggers, we all wish we had that ability to scurry up and down light poles and tree tops to get good photos. Squirrels would make great bloggers ... at least the photo part.

I deleted my previous comments. Too many typos, must remember to wake up before commenting :) What I wanted to say was that squirrel nest must be a whole apartment complex. Great series of photos. He certainly has a head for heights doesn't he?

I thought that might be a sock in the squirrel nest, but when I enlarged the photo, is was pale leaves. My aunt had a tea towel in a nest in her tree, a few years back.

I've never seen a black squirrel except in photos. I've seen a gray one. :-) I only see squirrels if I go out to the lake, botanical gardens, or up in the mountains.

Huge nest! I also enjoyed your other blog photos.

Your Black Squirrels amaze me-so neat. I've always been intrigued by squirrel nests-how they stay together when they look like such a fragile mess.

I really love that black squirrel! I'm always amazed that the nests survive the storms. When we had all that ice and wind, the squirrel nest out back didn't seem to be effected by it at all. I wonder how they tie it all together and I wonder how many squirrels will share one.
