My World #19

This is my posting for the My World meme . It is hosted by Klaus, Tom, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were over 100 people showing their worlds to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Here is part of 'My World'.

Winter is still here as can be seen in my back yard. The February thaw is gone and we have had 10" of new snow with more predicted. I hear the snow plows trying to clear the roads as I'm doing this post this morning.
I'm going to show you an area icon. It is located south of Akron, Ohio and can be easily spotted from the air. This is were all the Goodyear blimps were made for years. It was called the Goodyear Blimp Hanger. It is so large that it has its own weather system inside and will sometimes rain inside the building. The hanger is 200 feet high by 350 feet wide by 800 feet long and it has a circular shape.
It is truly hard to tell how big it is but a blimp is 190 feet long when built. They fly in the are quite often but you have to be in the right place to get photos.
Try to visit some of the neat places people are showing around the world.

I have always wondered about the Blimp. We used to see them from time to time here in North FL. Great post, again. Thanks for the compliment on my blog!!

Tom, More snow????? Oh -- I know you are thrilled about that!!! ha...

We got some snow on Sat. night/Sunday morn but not much. It was cold though--only in the 20's all day yesterday.

Me???? I'm ready for spring.

I always get a kick out of the Blimps when I see them. Interesting to see where the Goodyear Blimps were made. Your snow is pretty to me but I can imagine that you might be ready for a break from it.

That's a really cool pic. We are still getting snow here too. I'm still waiting for spring although my patience is lacking at this point!

What a great post! Really enjoyed learning more about the Blimp. It does look cold there! Thanks for sharing!

Drat! I want your snow. Ship it out here, will ya?

Love these shots.

Now I know where the blimps are made. You see them flying around and I didn't really think where they came from. Thanks.

I lived near to where the blimps were built in the UK many moons ago. Long time since I saw one. More snow though. Long time since I saw that too.

Interesting post, FG. It's own weather system? Strange. Is it controlled or is it just up to Mother Nature? Never heard of that before.

Okay we need to get some people from down south on this new meme :) heee, hee all of us seem to be covered in snow and cold :(

Oh well soon enough we will have spring and then we will reminisce about these beautiful winter shots!

What an interesting place to show us! Nice one.

Wow, amazing that it creates its own weather!

I always wonder how they make big things, but never saw the blimp hangar until you showed it here. It's own weather system inside? That's big-- amazing to see the trees look so small standing next to it.

Thanks for a fascinating tour and another great My World post!

This is something wonderful to see. Beautiful snow too.

And the song was Winter Wonderland..!
I'm shivering tonight too...lots of fresh snow and the temp is -18 C!

We got more snow, too, though not as much as you did. The temperature is down in the 20's again, too.

I've been to Akron but I didn't get to see the blimp hanger. Will have to keep that in mind for next time I'm there. I'm intrigued by the idea of an independent weather system inside the building. Mind boggling!

That building must be huge! I never thought about where the blimps were made.

Very lovely scenery. The hanger looked pretty, I thought it was a building.

Your winter just won't quit this year! These storms come by us a day or so after visiting you, but have already dumped most of their snow and ice. Blimp hangers are huge. We spot the Goodyear blimp once or twice a year in our area. I got a shot last April.

Wow! This is really interesting!

I never really thought about having to have a hangar for those guys, but it makes perfect sense that you would. I wouldn't have guessed that a building could have its own weather though. Even one as large as that.

The fresh layer of snow is beautiful!

Thanks for showing us the blimp factory and telling of the climate in the. I have seen them a long time ago in the sky . Or on tv. I need to send you some sun shine too. Have a great week.

Yes, you seem to have had about as much snow as we received post thaw and we too will get more.

That Blimp Hangar is HUGE! Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

What an interesting post! Thanky you fishing guy!

It would be interesting to see a blimp near the hanger to get some idea of the size of the building. But the fact that it has its own weather system gives a pretty good idea. Sorry to hear about your additional snow.

I like these pictures, Fishing Guy.

Wow, still a lot of snow. Here the temperatures are rising, 5°C and rain, going to 12°C in the weekend. My post this week contains also the Canada gooses :-)

I'll have to remember this the next time I drive up that way so I can check it out.
You sure are having more snow than we are. Stay warm my friend!

My post today is at Carletta’s Captures.

Ohio sure used to make a lot of stuff that at the time was on the cutting edge of invention. Today I guess there are spy blimps for the Mexican border for drug runners and illegals.

Hope you have a great day.

This is fascinating about the hanger! I love those huge old blimps. Once in Switzerland I begged the pilot to let me see the inside of the cabin and "cockpit" of a passenger Zeppelin that was mooring near us for a month. Very exciting it was. No free ride though.
Thanks for this eye-opener, Fishing Guy.

That's so interesting about the Goodyear Blimp Hangar! In FL, we lived about 2 miles from the big stadium and we'd always see the blimps flying around. Cool to know where they came from!
I'll bet you're ready for spring by now!

Well how cool is that Blimp factory, really interesting. Please send to snow to us, we are in desperate need here!

Tarolino said...

Wow! That is some hangar. Amazing construction. Thanks for showing it.

Leanne said...

You are getting more snow.... we are looking at more extreme heat. You have made me think now ???? does Aust import the Blimps we see here I don't think we would make them.

Interesting building and something I've never really thought much about.

That's amazing that the hangar is so big that it ht sometimes ha it's own weather system!
