"Macro Photos"

The theme this week by myself is "Macro Photos". Mac, Kathy, Craver, Lew, Christine and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. We now post anytime before 4 PM EDT on Wednesdays and voting begins after that.

I really enjoy the macro setting on my Canon SX100IS. It is easy to use and I'm always happy with the results. I had an encounter with a praying mantis, I always enjoy seeing this insect and they are wonderful to capture. I decided this was what I wanted in my header in its praying position.
Here is a daddy-long leg , not an actual spider, but an aphid eater.
I really enjoy the bumble bees.
Hoe about checking out this house fly with the florescent body.
So, here are some more photos of the praying mantis.
Check out this pose.
Here it is climbing on the flowers.
It went right passed the bee.
See what the others show on my sidebar.

I adore the praying mantis. My son says they should be wearing a top hat!

I don't take many macro shots. You do well with the photos you take. Like the praying mantis.

It was a good choice to fill the header photo with the mantis. What an amusing creature!

The aphid-eater has a colored body... I didn't know that. I have tried taking macro pics of the actual tiny aphids. That's tricky work, my friend!

Wow. I love the mantis shots. They are such incredible creatures. Love the angle of the bee, too--head on! Great images this week; thanks for sharing them!!

Another Canon user. Mine is the SX10IS, but my little PowerShot A1200 also has a macro setting, so if I am out and about with only it in my pocket, I can still take advantage of close-ups.

The preying mantis is an awesome creature to watch. When I taught first grade, we always had one as a pet in the classroom. The kids would take turns at recess with a butterfly net to capture grasshoppers to feed her.

When it was parent night, I had them catch a bunch. Just before the parents came into the classroom, I put two or three in the tank with her. As I was explaining curriculum, a parent near the tank shouted "Hey, look at this!" and they all gathered round to watch the mantis with one grasshopper under each arm alternately take a bite out of each and much away. (I didn't really want to explain curriculum that night.)

You got up close and "buggy" with your photos, didn't you, my friend!
Great shots....
( My grown daughter is NOT a fan of spiders, and that spider photo would have given here the heebie jeebies!)
