The Buckeye Tree in Winter

The winter allows for some unusual growths on the Ohio Buckeye Tree. Here is some green lichen that is on part of the trunk and branch. Here is another area that has both the green and white lichen.
I think the fungus has an interesting pattern.
The final shot from the tree is a branch that I had trimmed previously.
The final thing I wanted to show was a floating log that had been drug off the fishing lake. I think it adds to the look in my Hostas and Sedum bed.
There is a reason I was drawn to this log because of its size and character. It kind of has a bull look at this end with the two horns.

Hi Tom- I think you have photographed lichens, which are symbiotic organisms- part fungus and part algae. They are really fascinating. Check out my friend Jim's post, which includes video, about lichens!

Love the texture of the lichens!
I like the old log - I personally think they add interest to a flower bed.

I saw the horns before I got to where you said it. Cool!

Very interesting pictures, Fishing Guy. It's clever to dwell on things that generally we do not mind about.

I really like your moss and lichen Tom. I have one on polyspors (similar to lichen) sheduled soon. It has been interesting learning the difference between these.

Very artistic photos of the lichen, moss, and cut branch. Amazing how pretty and intricate they are close up. I like the addition of the "bull" log to your flower bed too.

Wow! All very interesting shots. I'm glad you noticed and pointed out things to us that we may not necessarily look at. Very cool.

These are neat! The white looks like little leaves spreading over the bark.
