I'm usually pretty good at finding the flowers name but this exotic has me stumped. I'm sure someone can name it. It was the flower bed at the library. The photos were taken in the Fall with the flower at full bloom. It was at least four feet (1.3 meters) tall .
Titania was the first to name it a Canna sometimes called a Canna Lily although not a true Lily.
It has an unusual and colorful red bloom. I think I have it captured well enough for an ID.

Beautiful Canna, Tom. There is a house near my inlaws house in Hendersonville, TN --which has a huge circular bed of these beauties. If one is this pretty, can you imagine how much prettier several would be??!!!!

Could it be Arrowroot? It has the same growth habit and leaves although mine has not flowered as yet. It definitely belongs to the same family as the Canna Lily.

Nice choice of flower for this week! I love the reds. :) That's common here in the Philippines.
Cannas do come in such fantastic colors now days, from pale yellow and pinks to reds and orange. They can become a pest in a garden as once planted, you can never get rid of them as they are always popping out somewhere again.
That looks like canna to me too, we have a few hybrid canna here, they bloom all year long in the tropics.
I enjoyed the pictures of flowers and critters! No cardinal bird in our area and no flowers like this too.
I think I have seen these in Hawaii. They are beautiful.
Oh yes, the canna lily, a favorite of my ruby throated hummingbirds. I have a lot of bulbs resting over winter in our darkest closet. Can't wait to plant them this next spring.

Yes, it is a Canna Lily. They look really well in large groups as a background. You captured the blooms really well, as they don't always photograph that well.

What a beautiful red flower on this calla lily. I photographed something similar on a walk recently. I'll check to see if it's the same thing or not and perhaps share another time.
