Often I take a photo and say to myself "That Was A Surprise". It is fun to get that surprise. Sometimes you plan the surprise such when we were in Canada and ,because of a forest fire, we had water planes landing in the lake. What do you do with the situation, get out the camera and have Mike, my grandson, catch the plane. Surprise, he caught it.
I got to take loon shots on the lake and surprise the loon got up and spread its wings.
There was a hummingbird that landed outside the window and posed.
The biggest animal to surprise visit my backyard was a 13 point buck.
I was surprise seeing the detail in a bees wing.
He was doing a nice job of posing until a surprise happened.
My choice for my surprise is when the deckhand threw a sardine in the water and the Black Crowned Night Heron dove for it. I swung the camera and here was my photo. I loved this SURPRISE!!!!!!!

Your surprise photo looks like a painting. What a neat capture!
Your bird pictures remind me of surprise pictures I took in India. I was shooting video as we took a cruise on Lake Periyar in the Periyar National Park and Tiger Preserve. No, no surprise that we didn't see any tigers. We did see a couple of elephants on a far ridge which look like dots on the horizon.
But the surprise was filming the cormorants perched on snags in the lake and suddenly they would let loose.
Certainly a colourful photo. Think it would take more than a sardine to make me move that quick.
Interesting shot Tom! Wasn't sure what I was viewing on the header until viewed again in the smaller shot. It does look like a water colour painting! Nicely captured.
There are some really lovely surprises here Tom. Loved them! Catching the float plane was very clever of your grandson ;) Have a great week!
