Autumn Is In the Air

The Canadian Geese are gathering together for their migration to the South for the Winter. The young ones are big as the parents and ready to fly. There were two groups at the two ponds. This is the big pond. This is the group on the smaller second pond.
There is something strange on the pond. What is that white duck doing with the geese.
Take a look at this gooses neck, it has been tagged, if it is captured they will determine where it has gone.
What a minute, that's not a duck. That is a Snow Goose (White Morph phase) among all the Canadian Geese. I couldn't tale that it was a Snow Goose without the black wing feathers and the goose type beak. It was a surprise capture for me.
So this is another sign of Fall.

The migrating of the geese is a definite sign of the change in season. I love to watch and hear them fly overhead. I always stop to watch till they go out of sight.

Tom-

Great capture. I'm sure most people would just have dismissed these as a flock of Canada's and not thought anything about it. I've never seen a snow goose, hopefully I'll see some this fall/winter. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting these awesome pictures! How neat that the snow goose was among the Canadian geese! We have seen a few V-shaped flocks fly overhead. I love this time of year!

Great post. And yes, I'm afraid fall is here - that would be fine, but, of course, that means w---- is not far away. I dread the dark.

Our local Virginia Canadian geese stick around all year leaving droppings on our golf course. I'm glad that I don't live near one of the golf ponds but I do see them when I go for my morning walk.

You recently wrote a nice report on the autumn equinox. Did you know that an American lady living in the south of France also wrote an interesting blog about autumn? Her blog is called
THESE DAYS IN FRENCH LIFE and I have a link to it from my blog. You might want to take a look. She talks about how Napoleon Bonaparte created a calendar unrelated to the church saints but to plants and trees in nature.

Congratulations on your Post of the Day over at David's "Authorblog"!

I love these bird pictures!
The white Snow Goose is interesting, wonder how it became part of the flock. The tag on the goose's neck seems cruel to me!

I saw lots of geese in their familiar V-formation down at Lake Neusiedl the other week. They probably have left by now. There were also thousands and thousands of swallows flying low in the evening, only inches above my head while I was swimming at sunset, not to talk about the starlings, which seemed to be able to blacken the sky any moment.

May your autumn be a beautiful one! :-)

You left an interesting comment on my Brookville Blog about my being related to Daniel Boone. I left you an answer back there about that and also brought it up here.

Actually I am related to Daniel Boone. The Boone's got into my Lincoln clan in Kentucky when one of the men married one of our women. Honest. I kid you not.

My apologies...my memory is getting shorter than you know what.

I forgot to tell you that I would have just dismissed this as a flock of Canada Geese and would never have known the difference.

I did see a large flock of these in a field this spring and they were gleaning corn as I recall. There was also standing water in the middle of the field and some were in that picking out night crawlers.

Beautiful Capture - reminds me of a scene in the movie "The Notebook" where they're in a small little boat with all these snow geese (I guess that's what they are) swimming everywhere around them - I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!

You have a better eye than me! Great capture. The birds are beginning to gather together everywhere. Doesn't make it any easier to get them (me that is, not a good photography morning). Good thing I already had my Grand Canyon series going.

Yes, that would have been pretty big for a duck. Do waterfowl scare fish? Most of my fishing is done in local ponds, and if I see ducks on one side, should I try to fish from the opposite side?

I think it's interesting that now that I think of it, I've never seen two white geese together on a lake. Hmmm...

Great shots. :-)

Cool geese pictures! I know for a fact I've never seen that many ANYWHERE on water before. Maybe once or twice on a golf course (why do they go there), but that' sit. Love your snow goose, and the tagged one, too!
