Sky Watch Friday 9-19-08

Sky Watch Friday is on it's own. Please check out the new sight and link in if you wish to participate. There were 357 people last week with beautiful Sky photos. You can link in from my side bar or above.

These are two shots from the Toby Keith concert last Saturday night. This is the cloudy sunset. We had two solid days of rain which ended 5 hours before the concert.
We now have the Harvest Moon in the cloudy Sky rising as the Sun is setting. The reason they called it a Harvest moon was that it gave the farmer enough light to continue working after sunset. This has changed since they added all the big lighting systems to the tractors.
Sunday brought the remnants of Hurricane Ike that hit Texas up through Ohio. It took out power to 2 million customers for a few days. Some are still down from the winds that gusted 60 to 80 miles per hour and took out many trees. This is a view of a cloudy day on Monday with a promise of better weather to come. The promise was fulfilled on Tuesday and has continued until today and a promise through the weekend.
Hope you enjoyed the Ohio Roller Coaster Weather Skies.

Love those blue skies in the bottom pictures! I didn't realize you were in Ohio. For some reason I thought you were more southeast. I'm still amazed that Ike got to Ohio.

All wonderful. If my dad had seen he Monday shot he would have said it would clear because "there's enough blue up there to make a Dutchman a pair of britches".

Leora said...

I hope you have recovered from Ike! The sky on Tuesday certainly did recover; I love the bright blue and the lush greens.

I should call my brother, who lives in Ohio. Oh, in his case, no news is good news.

Lavender and Vanilla Friends of the Gardens said...

Yes I have enjoyed all your pictures thoroughly. I also appreciate the texts. The harvest moon is still very special so it seems it has lost its purpose!!
Happy SWF.

Mmm... such a beautiful series of photographs!
Great information for that Harvest Moon! Usually the full Moon will rise about 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25-30 min3 later across the US, and only 10-20 mins later for much of Canada and Europe.

Hope your weekend is good!

Your "roller-coaster skies" remind me of a longstanding joke in S. Illinois: You don't like the weather? Just wait a few minutes, it'll change.

Hi FG,
The problem with putting a comment on a post when so many other people have already commented is that it is virtually impossible to say something that hasn't already been said so I'll just have to repeat what other folk have said. Great shots!

Wonderful photos. I'm glad the skies cleared for your concert. And this is why I love blogging, not only for the awesome photos, but from what I learn, in this case about the Harvest Moon and why it was called that. Thanks for the informative and beautiful post.

That last picture is absolutely gorgeous! Very nice job.
By the way, I got my pictures up from the Rascal Flatts/Taylor Swift concert. Check out sherrikayesheart.blogspot.com.
Have a great day!

It's easier to watch the pictures of Roller Coaster Weather Skies than actually living through them, I guess. The images look great, though. My favorites are the one with the moon and the one with the clouds against the bright blue sky.

Full moon around the autumn equinox always seem so much larger, don't they?

Fishing Guy,
There are more pictures on my other blog page (www.sherrikayesheart.blogspot.com). There are a few on there of Taylor, but they weren't as good as Rascal Flatts because they had better lighting. Please go check out my other blog page and thanks so much for stopping by!
