Camera Critters # 78

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

My Black and Gray Squirrels have been very busy in this wet weather stripping my Ohio Buckeye Tree clean of the nuts. It only took them a week to do it. Here is one on a branch getting ready to open the buckeye. Did I tell you it was wet and dreary all week.
This one had gotten a nut and was going to bury it in the yard.
This is one in the tree that had stripped the shell and was now ready to have a treat in the tree.
The Ohio Buckeye is poisonous to humans but the squirrels love them. I saved a few for a picture later on my deck railing. I hope it works. I will show the gray Squirrels next week.
You can see a lot of neat critters above.

Thanks for the great pictures of your black squirrels. The squirrels are working away down here as well, but right now we have more nuts than they can handle. I hope you get some great pictures on your deck rail.

Squirrels are so fun to watch. You got some great photos of them while they were stocking up for the winter.

Are those nuts not terribly prickly on the outside? It must take some courage to bite into that.

I posted a squirrel, also....wish I had got more than the one. I have never seen a black squirrel in real life. Are these in your yard? It would be fun to watch them.

Those little guys are so cute. And fun to watch.
I've always heard that buckeyes are poisonous to human.

Hi Tom,

Good shots of the squirrels. It was rainy or cloudy most of the time in elk country, too. Hopefully we will hit upon a period of more stable weather soon.

Thanks for sharing the black squirrels, I do not think I have ever seen one before. I just have the gray ones here eating all my birdseed.

Great captures! I don't get black squirrels in my area so I always love when others post pictures of them.

You certainly caught them in the act. Hope the days get dryer and not so weary. Nice captures and look forward to the posed deck shots.

Wonderful creatures. I don't know that I would want to bury my boof before eating it though? :)

Sorry to hear about your weather, it is starting to get cold here, fall has set in here. The Black Squirrels are cool I haven't seen them before.

I love our little black squirrels. The have stopped chewing up our feeder--must be enough nuts and seeds that they prefer right now.
Have you tried dried corn on the cob? Our neighbors have a a squirrel feeder on their deck and that's what they use.

The squirrels in our area are happy the rain has stopped for the most part. We didn't see them for almost a week it rained so much. Now they are busy collecting nuts to their hearts content.
