I'm sorry but spammers are attacking the sight so I turned on comment moderation and word verification for now.
Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.
It's hard to believe we are up to 10 already. I was driving along and next to the 2nd hole at Fox Den golf course near the pond I saw this.
I had to stop and get a better look.
Sure enough it was a large Snapping Turtle thinking about crossing the road.
I parked across from it and shot some pictures then moved on. The portion of skin on the neck that is half elliptical shaped moved in and out as it breathed. This may have been a female heading somewhere to lay eggs.

Darn - you got hammered with spam!
Better put up moderation!
Aside from that it's neat to see an animal like that roaming around!
Cheers, Klaus
Oh dear... perhaps moderation is in order once more... needed to tell you thats some fantastic photos of the snapping turtle... awesome!!! =)
Klaus / Michele: This is a first with so much spam coming in. I'll just delete them for now. Thanks for your comments.
Wow! That is one big turtle! Great shots of her/him :)
My entry is here
If you have a moment please do stop by. Have a great weekend!
How beautiful and the nature, the marvel that is able to drive and see this turtle, something rare congratulations for the photos are very beautiful
Maybe you need to put the option of the captcha... so spammers won't get in.
Anyway, that really is a big turtle. SO cute!
Mine is posted, too, please drop by here if you have some time.
You sure had a good eye!! good photo!
What an excellent eye you have! Well spotted. Superb photos.
Wow! I've been wanting to photograph one of these critters for ages. I had a chance to, too, but passed it up. Shame on me. And good for you! These are great!
Turtles ROCK! We have a red eared slider as a pet.
Yes, the turtles are nesting everywhere and it always seems like they want to cross the road ways to lay their eggs.
Love it! We are big turtle fans at our house - we have 4... none as big as this one though. Really fun shots - so very lucky!
Fishing guy, I got spam the first week I started my blog.. enabled comment moderation and No more problems.. even without word verify, Sorry they got you..
Great photo of the snapping turtle, I know most people think they are ugly but I think they are beautiful. We actually turned around on the interstate last week and went back and saved a painted turtle, don't know how it survived, all I can guess is with it's head up it kind of looked sharp so people swerved to miss it.. I would love to see baby snappers, Mike had one as a pet when he was growing up. Happy Fathers Day to you!
Hope it got to cross the road safely.
How neat to spot it just wandering around. Excellent find.
He really is huge!
Great shot FG!
Oh my gosh that is one huge turtle.
YUP! I think it is definitely egg laying time. I see them EVERYWHERE out here along the road, crossing the road, walking through yards... EVERYWHERE! It's kind of weird because it is not really what you expect to see crossing the road in front of you hehehe.
ah...turtle..great series shots
Visit mine also in here Thanks
I like the last shot :D SO close hi hi
Mine in here Thanks
Now that's something we don't have in Israel, so thanks a lot for sharing your turtles. I wouldn't want to get snapped at by that big mama.
Great series of shots or is that snaps.
I don't believe this until you show me this FG, what a find and what a great surprise :D
They are wild I suppose? Very unusual indeed to spot this ya.
Happy Father's Day to the fathers in your family and to you a blessed day.
I hear cardinals, Carolina wrens, grackle babies wanting fed, and other nature sounds and the sky in the east is getting brighter and the air is cool and the doors are open and so are the windows. I am blessed on this Father's Day morning.
Such a cool guy!
Hey FG, fearsome jaws. Wouldn't want to step on one. :)
Ah Great capture, good job you got your eye on the road.lol.

*pooh pooh* on your spammers- Grrr!
Are you ready? Big game tonight for Father's Day. Hope you had a great Father's Day. Neat photos of the turtles. And there ought to be away to catch spammers and tickle their toes.
Great shots - I'm so glad you stopped to investigate!
It's always so fun to run across a turtle, altho, maybe not a snapping turtle!
You know the old saying? If a Snapping Turtle bites you it won't let go until it thunders. That is a good picture of it!
Sorry to hear about the spammers. Not good news.
Hi, I have word verification only and no spam. I had a real person sign in and put a link to a store, but that takes a person and they didn't come back after I deleted their post.
I love the turtle and hope you had a great Father's Day.
Great and fantastic turtle!
Sorry about that spam attack.
Great pictures, Fishing Guy! Those look like some fairly large turtles.
Sorry to hear about the spam. They haven't hit my blog in awhile. I'm probably living on borrowed time.
I have heard, that this type of turtle, much bite.
I thought this was going to be another one of those "what is it" shots. So, since I know the guessing would be over (since I'm "Johhny-come-lately") I was going to guess before scrolling down.
I would have guessed it was a "beached" beaver. LOL
Nice pictures.
