Weekend Of Fishing

Another cold front moved in this weekend. There was a difference in that the water has warmed into the 60's. It is also getting near the full moon so the Crappie are getting ready to spawn. The day was clear before I got the boat out to the lake but things changed fast and it clouded up and got ready to rain. The fishing was slow but as soon as the rain hit the water the fishing picked up. There was two heavy showers, without lightning, so I put on my Frogg Toggs and kept on fishing. The action stayed strong as long as the rain kept falling. Sometimes I am able to catch some really little fish. Check out this perch that took my minnow. I have my sunglasses and to show you the length of this 4" Perch. Sometimes you wonder how small they get active enough to think they should take on a 2" minnow.
Here is part of the catch on Saturday. The biggest Crappie was 11" and the biggest Perch was 9".
Last week all I caught was Crappie but this weekend I caught 26 Crappie, 16 Perch and one Warmouth Blue Gill.

This catch gave me 2 quarts of fillets.

Now the bad news, I had my brakes go out on the truck as I was towing the boat. Luckily I was able to stop safely and averted a wreck. My Son-In-Law was able to help me get the truck in for repair. I was going to fish from shore on Sunday but left the hip boots in the truck. I just did work around the house and have to have the truck repaired. That's the life of a trailer boater.

I'm happy that you did well with the fishing... it's quite the potpourri of fishies you have encountered their! Niiiice!
I'm glad no one was hurt or that you were able to stop from a serious accident from happening! YAY you for having those awesome driving skills and wonderful instincts!
Soon you will be up and running back to those lakes!

Nice mess of fish. I wish I was there. A truck with no brakes hauling a trailer is a scarey thing. I'm glad you got it stopped without incident.

Great loot! You got lucky there with both fish and the failing brakes!
Cheers, Klaus

Looks like the fishing turned out well - not so much for transportation.
Stay safe!

My late grandfather's very favorite fish was crappie. I have to agree with him. I grew up in Missouri and fishing was such a big part of my life. Simply nothing better that a mess of bass, crappie, bluegill, etc., all filleted, fried and consumed!

Live on a pond in CT now and still have fish, but not in the quantity we did in MO.

I never new you could eat Perch.... the big blue gill looks a nice fish.
I had the brakes go on me one time... very scary getting it to the garage using just the handbrack and gears... Hope it's not out of action for to long and the bill not to heavy.

Lakers are still in it. Our son-in-law from the Cape wants the Celtics to take the championship. We like Tiger but didn't get to see him play hurt. He has had a long career and is still very young and can do more and more.

Great mess of fish. I like the perch photo-I actually use to work at a lake (private resort for Champion International) and cleaned fish. Some folks would bring in the smallest little perch and want us to clean them. I haven't seen a perch in years.

Hey Fish!

It is not "story of fisherman" ...

... you even fishing.

This makes me hungry for fish. I'm not a fishing person, but I'll clean them (they have to arrive to me already dead), I'll cook them and I'll eat them. I just don't want to catch them (because it breaks my heart to watch them gasp and struggle)

Good catch! Nice picture of the lake too, and now I'm back getting caught up in your blog. Looks like I have a LONG way to go. You've been busy!

And wow! You have lot's of readers too. Congrats!

So glad you are safe and that the truck is fixable.
Nice fish! The perch transport me back to childhood. I used to walk to the pier in Chicago and catch perch out of Lake Michigan with a cane pole and bobber. And eat them too. The good old days. . .

Nice to see your story over at Tipper's post on finding stuff.
Me too.
Isn't life fun?
