Small Pond Captures

The trip to Triangle Lake included a stop at a small pond in Kent on the way home. A Turkey Vulture circled a little way out. You can see the back underside of the wings are white. There was a lot of activity at the pond.
There was a Red dragonfly (Carolina Skimmer)
a White dragonfly. (Common White-tailed Skimmer)
and a Blue Dragonfly. (White Faced - the same as at Triangle Lake note the wings and the green eyes)
This was a perfect Olympics combination for the USA.

There was also a Brown dragonfly (Red Rock Skimmer?) but I don't know how he fit in, it was windy and he had a good hold.
His wings were a little funky.
There was also a Monarch Butterfly on some vegetation. The first this year. The Canadian Geese were there in full force.
They were at rest but I disturbed them as I searched the pond.
The guard goose kept a weary eye on me.
A nice catch from a small pond.

A very nice catch indeed! We were on the lake this past weekend but my camera doesn't zoom without distorting. One of these days I'll get a better one. Until then, I'll keep trying!

The black and white dragonfly is pretty enough to wear!

Really good shots! The butterfly could have been a Sky Watch picture.

I haven't kept up with country music in a while but you have really made a Josh Turner fan out of me. I'm going to google and see what he looks like. I wish I could figure how to put the music on my blog but I'm not smart enough.

The butterflies are really nice. What pond? Did I miss that? Dragonflies are not ease to capture on film.So I am really impressed.

I love the photos---especially the dragonfly shots.Really good. I can almost feel the heat coming off the photos. You may have to change your name from Fishing Guy to Country Critter Man.

I had to go to my heart doctor yesterday and while in his office, I saw or we saw over a dozen turkey vultures circling. They are a large bird and we see them a lot as animals are injured along I-70 and crawl off into the fields where they die. The vultures then circle until they die and then eat after they die. I suppose something died along the river and that is why there were so many of them yesterday.

Yes, raccoons will strip a field of sweet corn over night if there is a family of raccoons around. I had a family living here for 6 months and got to watch them grow up until they were weaned and momma took them away with her. I learned a lot from that six months and it is priceless information not found in books. Little things like rubbing moss with their feet, which must feel good as they do it a lot.
